I step into the lobby of the hotel, being faced with the warmth of the heated environment, which is a complete change from the outside chill I had been enduring for the past few hours. I am greeted by the usual receptionist, Laura, with a pearly smile and a nod as she continued to speak with someone on her small earpiece.
I make my way to the elevator, right as the door opens. I walk in and stand with a male who presumably has come up from the underground car parking. I flash him a friendly smile, and press the button to my floor, one above his lit up button. The elevator ride is silent, aside from the light whirring of the elevators mechanics around us. The hotel should really invest in some elevator music, and not the bad jazz stuff either, even the radio would be substantial. After what feels like milliseconds the elevator lets out a high pitched ding, signalling for the man in my company that we have reached his floor. He wishes me a good afternoon, and proceeds to exit the elevator and into the hallway. I watch him approach a door at the end of the hallway, briefly, as the elevator doors shut.
I reach my floor almost immediately, and make my way to my designated room for the next few weeks, months, or even years. I had moved out of my rental house with my boyfriend, Leon, a month ago due to a series of gruesome murders happening in the neighbourhood. We decided it would be best for us if we just started fresh in a new area, which has proven to be a waste of time and money as the murders have spread all over the state, with copycats popping up everywhere, proving that nowhere is really safe anymore. Luckily for us the hotel has top of the line security systems, and the door has more locks than you could imagine, due to these incidents lately I'll presume. We've settled in nicely with our hall neighbours, they're all quiet and considerate of everyone. Isn't it scary to think one of those neighbours could just be putting on a front? That they could be the disgusting human just taking innocent lives for their own pleasure?
I place my bag on the lounge chair and proceed to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee. In the kitchen I see Leon sitting on the bench, looking at his phone, concentrating very hard on whatever it was he's reading. He looks up at me,
"Another person was found with green dyed eyes near here" He informs me. I stay quiet.
"You know? The murderer killing people then dying their eye whites green?" He reiterates.
"I know Leon. I'm not living under a rock, we moved house because of all this." I inform him playfully.
He smiles while shaking his head at me. "You should really take this more seriously, Til" He warns "You never know who's behind all this, or who they plan on going for next"
"I know, but I can't sit around dwelling on the fact I might die, and be found with an unflattering eye colour, can I?" I reply, walking back into the lounge room. As soon as I sit down and turn on the television I'm greeted with more news about this killer.
'Police are encouraging the community to stay indoors and report any suspicious behaviour to the police hotline shown on screen now, most importantly remain calm, there is no need to worry, we have this under control-'I turn the television off. How are police telling the citizens not to worry, and that they have it all under control if the killer struck again right before the news came on, it's clearly not under control, and we should be worried. I however, am not all too worried, as I feel safe in the place I live, and I have prepared myself in case of the worst case scenario, by that I mean I just carry a fairly sharp pocket knife with me kat all times, I laugh to myself as if I'd ever actually use it on anybody, I'd feel too terrible.
(AUTHORS NOTE!!; I know it's like super short but it's meant to be like a pilot episode, but chapter. Yeah i know what i meant😂, but it's to ask for like feedback or suggestions and stuff like that! thanks)
