Polar Bears.... But Naked

It's been nearly two years since the ice caps vanished. Sea levels have risen 70 meters and in an attempt to prevent further loss of land, a wall was erected. The wall consists of two layers each 30 meters in height with a hollow inner gap of 5 meters filled mostly by a filtration/draining system. The sea level fluctuates every now and then. The fluctuation is being considered the new tide and this tide is used to convert some of of the ocean water into a usable version. The water is pumped  20 kilometers within the wall to a desalination plant which uses flash distillation to separate the water from the salt and collect it in a different container.

The wall is divided into sections that correlate to the sections the country has been separated into in place of the old state system. Each section spans 3,000 kilometers for a total of 5 sects. Each sect has its own water distillation/filtration system to supply the people within its borders. These sects have replaced states in a sense, but are considered “new states” officially. The sects in the south even refer to the wall as Trump’s Great Wall. Many of today’s citizens don’t like or don’t understand the reference.

Donald Trump was the 45th president of the United States, the third to last president of the old world. Part of his campaign was the promise to build a wall along the border separating the U.S from Mexico. In his second term he did finish erecting his wall, although Mexico never paid for it, the debt and increase in taxation of citizens is what lead to a halt in the pursuit of greener energy methods and, eventually, the great flood. One Noah's Ark couldn’t even handle, although several believers attempted to survive on replications of the Ark. That’s how the 267th Pope perished.

Life in the sects has been tolerable for the past three months. Things are starting to fit into place again. New legislation is being written and the past laws to prevent the further deterioration of the Earth’s atmosphere are being heavily enforced. So heavily that all smoke emissions have been banned, including but not limited to: cigarettes, campfires, coal burning factories, even being smoking hot is illegal. Well, not really, but spontaneous human combustion is now considered a crime. If the person survives they are fined $1,500-$2,000,  the family is responsible for the fine otherwise.

Citizens of each sect are currently voting for a completely new government. The new system is set up somewhat like a parliament. Each of the eight sects chooses a representative to hold a seat in the house, the sects also vote, as a whole, on a member to oversee the parliament. This seat is the replacement for the presidential position. If the president vetoes the parliament then the smaller parliaments within each sect vote to veto the president. The system is still in its early stages and will obviously be tweaked along the way.

Now that you, reader, have received a small rundown of the world I live in, you have an idea of the difference between the new and the old. I could go into every little detail and explain the logistics of the United Sects of America, but I would rather not. This is more of a citizens point of view rather than a historians. I’m sure by the time you read this there will be tons of works published on the founding, endeavors, and the the downfall of this new nation. I would rather add a personal view instead of adding to the fact only based documents in your time. Now I’m sure you noticed i mentioned the downfall of my nation. I could tell you that in theory all nations fall and I'm only being realistic, but in reality, it's more of a prediction based off current events.

It started only a few days ago. A mutation has occurred in the animals we once believed to have died out due to the near total destruction of their habitats. For some odd reason research and everything related to viewing the world outside of our walls was put on hold until recently. We received radio transmissions after we opened our connections with our satellites and the surviving countries. As surprising as it may be, the new African Union, which was formed after the drowning of most coastal areas, has made the most headway against this disaster. They had been attempting to get ahold of any of the surviving countries longer than anyone. When we finally opened our communications we discovered something rather terrifying.

When the ice caps disappeared we assumed the animals who called those areas home would become extremely endangered or entirely extinct. The loss of more and more habitat in the past caused numerous of polar bears, that was one if the animals used to bring attention to the growing problem. Instead, it seems, a dormant mutation has been found in several dozen polar bears, seals, and walruses attempting to migrate. Even more alarming is that some of the captured specimen have exhibited physical displays of this suspected adaptation after being contained in even a slightly less fitting habitat than they had initially evolved to live in. Each of the animals began losing excess layer of fat, the polar bears’ thick fur began to be similar to the little to no hair of a naked mole rat. Their temperament changed as well. The animals were more irritable and far more deadly when they do decide to attack. This actually occurs very often, its as if they know  humans destroyed their world.

As I type this very document i had hoped to be filled with the perspective of a citizen within this changing world, hordes of these mutated arctic animals are invading every human held area around the world. Our walls are being climbed my naked bears for crying out loud. What was once a fearsome polar bear, is now an odd looking but far more dangerous thing that cant even be described as a bear. Their paws now have retractable webbing which increases their speed in water even more than their loss of hair. The walruses and seals are much slimmer and are using that to invade our filtration systems while their land counterparts clim are walls and ransack our sects. Our military has not yet been re established fully and so the militia groups are doing their best to fight off the invading animals. It seems there will be no avail though. It's been a week now and no one has seen a break in the line of attackers.

I’m not sure how long i have to type this. It seems the bears have finally finished off the remaining defenses. I can hear one clawing at my door as we speak. I hear screams from the other rooms. I fear they've eaten the little girl in room 204. Dammit! They’ve gotten in, I tried to block the door of my study. They're already nearly throggggggggggggggggg
