Eddie has loved Richie since... well as long as he can remember. They were best friends in kindergarten, before they met the rest of the Losers. They still are best friends, but nothing more.Richie proposed to Eddie every year since kindergarten. On the same day, every single year. Every time Richie said the same thing; "How about we get married Eds?" and gets down on one knee to give Eddie a green Ring Pop, his favorite. And every year Eddie says the same thing; "Maybe when we're older Rich," then they laugh and talk until they both are finished with the green candy.
This year it stopped. He and Richie were still friends, but the day he proposed came and went without anything even close a proposal. Eddie missed sucking on the ring until he and Richie had the same shade of green on their tongues. He missed talking to Richie about bands, and the Losers, and anything really. Only it didn't happen this time. Nothing happened.
"I think he hates me. He hates me now," Eddie continues in his vent to Beverly. Bev is Richie's best friend, besides Eddie of course. Bev knows everything about Richie, and Richie about Bev. They got closer in 5th grade, when Bev started to smoke, so Richie tried, and that's how it all started. Richie going off to gossip with Bev, paint his nails black and share a cigarette or two with her.
"He doesn't hate you Eddie," Bev continues to reassure Eddie, "And I'm sure he just forgot about it." She is takes a drag of her cigarette. She normally doesn't smoke without Richie, but this was an exception. "Where there's drama, there's smokes," She likes to say with a wink.
"But Richie doesn't just FORGET about doing it, it's not something you can just forg—"
They were cut off by Richie, who was towering over them at a mind blowing 6'2. "Bevvv, you're not supposed to smoke without me! You broke the pact!" He says in a whiny voice. She rolls her eyes and simply says, "What pact are we talking about here?"
Richie sits down next to Eddie and drapes an arm over his tiny shoulder. "The one that says you can't smoke without me, duh. Anyways, on to more important matters, what are we talking about over here fuckers?"
Bev glances at Eddie, then to Richie, then back to Eddie. "Umm, I'll let Eddie tell you, I'm going to go meet Ben at the library." She puts out her cigarette, shoves the box back into her bag decorated with buttons and patches, and gets up to leave. "Talk to him. He'll listen," she whispers to Eddie as she gets up.
When she leaves, Richie turns around to face Eddie. "Were you two talking about me?" Richie asks. Eddies face goes red and says "No" before he finished his sentence. He knew Richie would push, but he didn't mind. He would find out what was upsetting him anyways.
Richie scoots closer to Eddie. He swings one leg over the other side of the bench that they're sitting on in the park. It was pretty out. Cold, but pretty nonetheless. Richie was prettier though. Stop it Eddie. Focus.
Richies face gets close to Eddies ear and he can feel Richies breathing on his neck. It felt so good, since it was cold obviously, but also because it was Richie. "What's on your mind Spaghetti Man?" Richie whispers in Eddies ear. The nickname isn't the best, but Eddie wasn't about to correct him. If Richie had pressed his head down 2 more inches into Eddies face, he would have kissed him. And that's all Richies needed to get Eddie to talk to him.
