Cas woke up in pain and groaned as his eyes opened, pierced by the bright sunlight that peeked through... red curtains? But his were blue. Cas sat up fast and looked around through his left eye, the only one not bruised. He looked around to see a completely different living room. The old tan carpet was stained, the couch he laid on was stiff, and the furniture was clearly cheap as a shelf was broken where a shattered flower pot laid. Footsteps were heard from down the hall as Dean walked in. Before he saw, Cas laid down to pretend to be asleep. When Dean checked his bandages on his stomach and eye, Cas swung up and hit Dean with a stale baguette that was under the couch cushion for some reason.
"Who the hell are you?" Cas yelled, wincing as it hurt his sides and throat.
"Um, the guy who saved your ass? You're welcome," Dean murmured as he rubbed his arm that the nerd hit since his force was about as weak as a kitten's paw.
"Where are we and why am I here?" Cas snarled quietly.
"I found you beat up pretty bad on the sidewalk and I brought you here, my home, so I could patch you up."
"Oh.. Thanks," Cas lowered his arm.
"So, what happened?"
"Dick and his goons beat me up."
"Ooh, bad way to start off at a new school." Cas simply nodded. "So, tell me about yourself, glasses," Dean sat down and looked at Cas.
"First off, it's Castiel. Not glasses, not nerd." Dean just shrugged and looked at him. Cas sighed.
"I'm 17 years old, I'm clearly the smartest, as you can tell from the bullying, and," he hesitated. "I-I'm bi," he murmured. Dean blushed slightly. He couldn't believe his ears. The cutest boy he's met is bi, basically like himself. He couldn't stop staring at Cas, red faced, until he snapped his fingers in his face. "Why are you red?"
"Nothing. I-It's just hot in h-here," Dean stuttered, rubbing the back of his head as he sat back. God, he was hoping Castiel didn't find out his secret, but he did. "Anyways, where do you live?"
"Not far. I can just walk," Cas replied, sitting up. "Not with your condition and those bullies. I'm driving you home," Dean protested. Cas sighed, not bothering to argue against the Senior.
They got in the car and Dean played his music. The ride was mostly quit until Castiel started to talk.
"Why are you so nice?"
" I have my secrets and they are going to stay secrets." When they arrived, Dean got out the car and let the younger boy out. Dean was starting to hate himself because his guard was down, he had a crush now. When Cas got home, he fell on his bed still wondering why Dean had he helped him and why he turned red. That night, Dean had not slept because he was thinking of Cas and how this kid was going to somehow mess up his life.
The next day Dean was at In School Suspension because he skipped After School Detention. When Dean was in there, he heard Cas in the nurse's room for his injuries that was down the hallway.
"How did this happen?" Mrs. Mills asked him.
"I got beat of by Di- by Richard."
"Oh, okay. Who stitched you up? They did a great job."
"You know that one punky kid, uhh Dean?"
"Yes, he's been here quite a lot from all those fights. Well he did an amazing job, almost better than me."
"Yea, he's pretty good. And quite nice." Dean's heart skipped a beat hearing the nerd's words. The punk peeked out the door, locking eyes with Castiel. They both looked away fast, Dean trying to keep the younger one out of his head. He sighed and looked over at Cas again, seeing that he was talking with the nurse. He got out his phone and snapped a quick photo of the busy bee, saving it to his home screen.
After ISS, Dean left to class and was greeted by Mike's "where the hell were you?" stare. When they sat down, Dean noticed Castiel was looking at him from the front of the classroom every so often. Soon class ended and Dean walked to Cas, trapping him in his seat.
"Listen here, Cas. Forget I ever helped you, okay?" Castiel was confused as to why Dean wanted him to forget but didn't want to ask in worry he might get beat. Instead, he just nodded at Dean who mouthed "Thank you." Dean smiled lightly and quickly left, happy he found someone to like but also pissed at himself for allowing himself to be so vulnerable.
That hour, Dean skipped class to prank the principal, Mr. Chuck. At lunch, he sat with his group as near to Castiel as possible, not really eating or listening to their conversation. After school, he left to go home, glad he pranked the principal with foiling his whole office. As he walked, he could hear Dick and his goons talking about how they'd pummel Castiel into the ground, again. Dean started running Cas' route home in hopes to find him before Dick did.
He soon found Castiel and ran over, putting an arm over him. "Just keep walking," He told the younger boy, who nodded and did as told, smiling softly. "What are you smiling about, nerd?" Dean asked playfully.
"Nothing. It's just nice for you to be helping me." Dean smiled back at Castiel and walked with him to his house.
