Jack's POV

Later That Day

The day is almost over. It kind of zoomed by. I think that I've been so in my head about talking to Johnson, that nothing around me really matters at the moment.

The bell finally rings and I grab my stuff and get ready to go.

As I stand up to leave, "Hey, Jack?" says a voice behind me.

What does she want?

"Sorry, Lacey, I can't talk. I've gotta go" I speed walk so she can't catch up.

I walk down the hall until Ems and Avery come into my sight and quickly make my way over to them.

"Where's Johnson?" I get straight to it. This is eating me up.

"Well, hello to you too, Jack" Ems says laughing.

"Ems, where is he?" I repeat.

"Where's who?" I hear behind me.

"Johnson! I really need to talk to you" I turn to him and pull my fingers through my hair. Ems continued her conversation with Avery.

"Get talking, bro" he playfully hits my shoulder and sends a smile my way.

"I need to talk to you. Just you" I say, trying to make sure only he can hear me.

"Oh" he pauses. "We can talk when we get to my house" he says as we start to walk. I nod in response.

Johnson turns back to Ems and says "Ems, let's go!"

She says bye to Avery and jogs to catch up with us.

"Hello!" she exclaims as she slides between Johnson and I. She's got this huge smile on her face. That smile is so damn contagious.

I immediately feel at ease for the first time since lunch.

"How was your day?" Johnson asks her.

"Not too bad. Not gonna lie" she nods.

"That's what I love to hear!" Johnson wraps his arm around her shoulder as we walk out of the doors of the building. They have such a good brother/sister bond. They are each other's best friend. That's why I'm so scared to talk to Johnson.

"You good, G?" Ems asks me raising an eyebrow.

"Just thinking" I respond, looking down and grabbing onto my backpack straps.

We finally reach my jeep after what seems like forever. For some reason, Ems stops dead in her tracks causing Johnson to stop as well. I turn in confusion before I hear Ems say "Don't even think about it, J". She's talking about the front seat. What a goofball.

"Fine, whatever" Johnson says in a sassy, teenage girl voice.

We all get in the car and get situated.

"I got aux" Johnson says.

"Ugh! I already know what he's going to play" Ems sits back and rolls her eyes. I chuckle at her expression.

I look back at Johnson as he has this devilish look on his face as he types away into Spotify. He leans over and turns the volume up and sits back again.

The song starts and watch as Ems puts her legs in the seat and covers her ears with her knees saying "Make it stop!" over and over again.

I turn my attention back to Johnson and he looks like he's getting ready for the bass to drop.
