"Please, let us go" I watch her bottom lip slightly tremble as she looks back and forth between her kids and I.
"Relax, Celeste. I'm going to help you guys." I look down at her arms, watching the small baby squirm and coo, completely unbothered by everything. "We have to be quick. Dimitri's gonna reach the room soon and well, you guys aren't there so."
"Thank you." I look towards Evan and I'm overridden with guilt. My brother, Dimitri, did this to them. And I helped. I try my best to help all the victims of Dominic, when he calls. Sometimes he completes the hits on his own but I try my best to help. I can't imagine why anyone would hurt this family, but I also know that not everyone is who they look like. I know my family isn't.
I hear Dimitri as he bellows from downstairs, "Danny!"
"What?!"
"Get down here and help me with the bags and guns."
"Alright, I'll be down." I look back at the family in front of me. "Don't go anywhere. I'm going to come back up when I can." I turn to walk away before an arm grasps onto mines.
"Please, help us." His eyes glazed over with fear. I feel like breaking down, I always do when it comes to this part. He reminded me of my father, protective, strong and willing to do anything for his family.
"Stay here." I quickly run down the stairs to avoid raising suspicion.
"Only took you a year," he tosses a duffel bag into my arms before I make it down to the last step, "throw the rest of our supplies in. We need to report to her soon." I couldn't help but realize how much Dimitri has changed.
"Yeah." I look up the stairs, scared but also confident because my brother has never caught on before. As a hitman, all he worries about is that the target is gone. My brother has been living the hitman life since 16 when we ran away. I was only 12 so I didn't think much of it when we lived in a nice big house with a man and women who was able to provide food. Later at 16, I learned that the man was teaching my brother to fight and join the hunting business. Ever since then, my brother has been killing targets for large amounts of money. He's reliable, he gets it done and the target terminated.
This hit especially was important to him. I could tell by how anxious he was. My brother wouldn't tell me anymore than the fact that she's some well known CEO of a powerful company and she is paying big bucks for this target. The target? The baby girl. I mean, who would ever want to kill a baby?! Babies are as pure and innocent as it gets. They didn't ask to be here in this world. They haven't made any life-threatening decisions. Pure innocence. I don't get it and I don't think Dimitri did either. But the more money she had, more money he got.
My brother soon left to go to town to meet up with the unknown lady. I quickly run upstairs to guide the family away before he returned. I reach the door and open it, finding them hidden away in a corner. "Let's go."
We walked through the woods before Celeste speaks up. "Who are you and why did you kidnapping us?"
"Daniel." I pull my hand out of my pocket to shake her hand, she hesitantly does the same. "As for the why part, my brother. He's been doing this for awhile."
"This? As in kidnapping and trying to kill innocent people?" Says Evan as he holds his son.
I let out a slight laugh, " I'm sorry, I didn't mean to laugh. I tend to laugh at the wrong times but my brother is a hitman. I mean, you've seen movies and stuff. And I'm not sure how much you know about hitmen but they're ordered to kill for something in return. At least, that's how we are."
"We? How many people have you killed?" Celeste stops walking and looks up. I see the obvious misbelief written across her face, but detect no fear. She was no longer scared which was shocking to me.
