"Steven, I'm sorry about tonight, I told you I have a deadline-"
"I don't want to hear it, Michael! It's our five year anniversary and you chose to write instead of seeing me. Have fun sleeping in the office because I don't want to see you tonight." The angry man spat before the sound of dial tone rang through Michael's ears.
The man sighed and sat back, running his hand through his hair. Nights like this happened often-maybe not this exact situation, but Michael found that there have been several instances where his husband had kicked him out for the night. The man never meant to choose his writing over his husband, yet it frequently happened.
Michael stood, wincing at the pain in his lower back, remembering that he has to schedule an appointment with the chiropractor. His mini fridge in his office provided him comfort as he chugged a few swallows of chilled water.
The next morning came quickly, a sleep-deprived Michael returning home to an angry Steven, who spared no expense in throwing a nearby object at his 'pathetic' husband.
"I've had enough with your excuses! You put your career in front of your own family Michael! How many times do I have to put up with it?" Steven screeched.
"If you're so sick of it, leave!" The fatigued man responded, red-faced and panting.
Steven pressed his lips together, nodding and silently walking off. Michael widened his eyes, quickly following after his partner.
"Steve, babe, I didn't mean it." The taller said, walking towards the master bedroom where his husband had his.
"No Michael, you're right, all you need is your writing, you've made it pretty damn clear." The man sniffled and finished putting his toiletries in a bag.
"Steve, where are you going?" Michael asked nervously, watching his husband push by him with a bag on his arm.
"Nowhere you need to be worried about. Maybe now you'll realize how fucked up you live your life."
Michael cringed at his partners' use of words, Steven barely cursed, the slam of the front door peeling the man from his thoughts.
He fucked up, royally.
