Finding Michael was easy, Luke would be lying if he said he didn't check up on the older once in a while. Luke felt content with the life his previous lover was living, he was happy that Michael had found someone to settle down with.
Contacting Michael was more difficult. Rider wished to meet his other father, Luke wanted best for his son, yet reaching out to a man he had no contact with for nearly two decades proved extremely tough.
"I have his contact information, it seems he's living in New York now." Luke mentioned during dinner with Rider the previous night.
"Wow, New York, so close yet so far." The boy chuckled.
Luke swiveled his desk chair back from the computer, groaning into his hands. It wasn't difficult finding Michael's email address, but the English professor struggled with formulating what to say to the man.
"You can do this," he mumbled to himself, inching the chair back to his desk, and pressing his fingers against the keyboard.
Luke held his bottom lip between his teeth as he proofread his words. The man attempted to keep the message short, but he knew how crucial it was that the author read his email and respond, for Rider's sake.
The man nodded, quickly clicking 'send' before he deleted the words he had written. The moment of truth, the first words spoken in eighteen years.

Michael,I hope you've been well. I've always been well with words, yet writing this email was quite difficult if I must admit. I apologize for any burden I'm causing you, a turn of events caused me to contact you after so long.
A few months ago my life was pretty average, I've been teaching Honors British Literature at the University of Pittsburgh for the past 13 years. It seems all my time spent in the libraries paid off. I moved to Pennsylvania after graduation, the university offered me a once in a lifetime position. This year's group of freshman are incredible, I have a special relationship with one of my student's named Rider. He's one of my best students. He majors in English Education, which is remarkable.
I know it's been an extremely long time, I only contact you because of the importance you meet someone. Rider Gonzalez, my student, is our son.
Best Regards, Luke Hemmings
