Life As I Knew It

Growing up wasn't always easy. Being the Son of Poseidon was a blessing AND a curse. I never knew why, but when I was around water, I was calm. Almost as if I belonged with the water.

Zander. That's my name.

When I was born, I was half alive. Poseidon saw my struggle, and he breathed life into me, making him, my father.

I never really knew what my dad looked like. My real dad or Poseidon. My dad died in a car crash the night I was born, and Poseidon only showed himself in dreams and he never looked the same.

I never knew of the powers I possessed either. I could breathe underwater! Almost like a mermaid. Or merman? Or Cthulhu? Anyways. I could breathe under water.

I was currently in my hometown of Los Angeles, going to high school and working as a vet.

"Zander, wake up. It's time for you to go to school." My mom said as she shook me awake. My mom was a sweet woman. She was a nurse at the hospital in our town and she's always been a kind woman.

I got up and got dressed for school. I walked down the stairs and saw my mom sitting at the table. "Have a Good day today sweetheart. I love you Z-Man." My mom said. I hugged her. "Love you too mom." I said.

I got in my Mustang my mom got me for my 15th birthday and headed to school. Once I got there, I saw my best friend, Arianna. "Zan!" She yelled as I got out of my car. "Ari." I said as she ran and hugged me. "I've missed you!" She said. "Ari, you were just at my house last night." I said. Just then, our other friend, Caesar walked up to us. "What's up guys?" He asked. "Nothing. Ready to head to breakfast?" I asked. We headed towards the cafeteria of our school, better known as California City High School, Home of the Bears. I didn't have many people I was close to at my school. I was kind of a loner when Caesar or Ari wasn't around. I stayed to myself, and that's what got me through the day. Except when Henry Valdez bullied me. He was captain of the basketball team and believed everyone owed something to him. With me, he believed I owed him my life.

"Hey Fag. Get out of here before you spread your gayness to everyone." Henry said as he walked into the cafeteria. "Hey Captain Little Dick, leave him alone!" Ari yelled. She was honestly one of the greatest friends someone could ask for. ♥ Henry gave her a dirty look and left. "Thank you Ari. " I said. Caesar sat across from us and he looked terrified. "Caesar, What's wrong?" I asked him. "He's coming." He said. "Who?" I asked. "Henry." He said. Before I could turn around, I was being picked up by my neck. "Leave him alone!" Ari yelled. He pushed her and she fell. That's when Caesar started fighting back. Henry kicked him in the stomach and he fell to the ground. "Now, it's your turn." He said as he headed towards the school's fountain. This was it. This is how I was going to die. I would go down in history as a nobody. Some dumb kid who was drowned by a bully. My mom would be devastated.

This is the day I died.

This is the day I was reborn.
