Lexa had always been a light sleeper having conditioned herself to be hyper vigilant since she was always by herself and tonight was no different and because of this she heard the unmistakable flutter of wings as an angel came to land at the foot of the bed. It certainly wasn't her first tangle with the celestial beings so she inched her hand under her pillow and wrapped her fingers around the cold metal of her angel blade before sitting up and throwing the blade as hard as she could at the dark figure looming in the shadows. The blade skimmed the Angel enough to make him shout out in alarm which in turn made Sam jerk awake beside her, “Castiel? What are you doing?” Sam shouted as he rubbed at his eyes trying to work out what had gone down since he'd fallen asleep. “You know this angel?” Lexa demanded as she gripped her gun tighter, a small red dot trained directly at Castiel’s heart which had the angel standing rather still in case she fired at him. “Yeah, this is Castiel” Sam explained quickly while feeling a little annoyed that the angel had come to spy on him, “Sam, your mother and brother are very worried about you. You really should have called them, it's not like you to just run off without an explanation” Castiel said while completely ignoring Lexa who had lowered the gun and sat down on the bed. “Cas, I think you should calm down. I didn't just run away because I wanted to, I had to. I had to find someone. This is Lexa” Sam said but Lexa didn't speak, her hand was pressed to her stomach and when Sam gently pried it away he saw her hand and the shirt was both covered in fresh blood, she'd burst her stitches. Castiel stepped closer to them and Lexa tensed up, unsure whether she could trust him when all her previous experiences owith angels had ended in injury and pain. “It's alright, he can help” Sam soothed and she turned her head so that it was tucked into his chest and away from the angel who was now by her side. Sam drew up her sleep shirt to reveal the mess that had been her injury and Castiel reached out his hand to press against the wound which made Lexa whimper in pain and clutch Sam harder. Castiel had healed Sam before and it had been painless so he was quite confused when Castiel began to heal Lexa and she had let out a scream of agony. “What's happening?” Sam asked urgently and Cas pressed against the wound harder, “Something within her is trying to deny my grace, it doesn't want me to heal her” Castiel said in confusion and then he pulled away from her, the mark healed over but deeply scarred. “Let her rest” Castiel urged but Sam didn't want to let her go so he shifted her gently in his lap so that she would be more comfortable, “I can feel something between you, a bond” the angel said gently, it was clear to see that Sam cared for the young woman but he couldn't help but wonder why. “Cupid” Sam mouthed to Cas, not wanting to break it to Lexa while she was recovering. “Sam, are you sure it was Cupid? They were all rumoured to have died in the fall” Cas said not bothering to keep his voice lowered, “Well I saw someone Cas, someone who told me that Lexa and I had to be together, that she led us together” Sam said as he stroked her hair off her forehead, “That could have been anyone! A demon or a witch even, this woman might be dangerous!” Castiel warned but Sam was having none of it, he simply could believe that Lexa was anything other than perfect even with all her obvious flaws. “Come back to the bunker and bring her with you, we can all keep an eye on her there and make sure she's safe” the angel pleaded and Sam took a moment to mull it all over, Lexa would certainly be more safe on the bunker than in any filthy motel and Cas was nearby in case she injured herself again which was a big plus in his books. “We'll head back to the bunker in the morning, tell Dean and Mom not to freak out” Sam said and Cas let out a chuckle, no matter what he said to Mary and Dean there was sure to be a full on interrogation the second Sam got home. Castiel didn't say anything more before he left but later on he truly wished he did, when he had first come across Sam and Lexa asleep in the bed he had marvelled at how truly at peace Sam had looked with his arms cradling Lexa close. Sam had looked happy, safe and secure and Castiel had wished for so long for the younger Winchester brother to find those things in life that now Sam appeared to have actually found those things, it was rather daunting.
