LATER ON THAT DAY, johnny entered the field as nadia watched from the bleachers. it had been the cheerleading girls' break, and they were required to rest there. johnny wasn't really recognized by nadia since he looked different on her phone.

"he's so cute," emily, the girl beside nadia said. "what do you think?"

"who?" nadia replied.

"you know, johnny orlando, aka the best lacrosse player and hottest guy ever." emily spoke. "oh," nadia said. "him."

"from what i remember, you used to hate him." emily said.

"why does everyone keep saying that?" nadia asked.

"oh yeah," emily claimed. "i forgot."

"forgot what?" nadia questioned cluelessly.

"nothing. i'm emily, by the way." emily smiled, reaching her hand out to nadia.

"i'm nadia." nadia smiled back.

"how do you know john?" nadia asked.

"we kind of used to date." emily mumbled awkwardly.

"what happened?"

"well, he felt like i wasn't the one for him. he said that he thought that there'd be better people out there for the both of us, and he also said that he needed to figure things out." emily smiled sadly.

"do you still like him?" nadia asked.

"i mean, it has been quite awhile," emily continued. "maybe a bit?" she said. "but, i'm happy for him. he looks great. how about you? how do you know johnny?"

"i was looking through my contacts, and i stumbled upon him, and now we're just kinda—" she said, looking at the boy. "acquaintances."

"girls! it's time!" lilia, the cheer captain yelled.

"guess that's our cue," emily said. "text me at x-xxx-xxx-xxx,"

"will do!" nadia smiled.
