Duskpaw looked around, yet again in a starry field. Another message? He wondered. He heard multiple pawsteps from behind him. He turned around, seeing one familiar starry figure, and one unfamiliar starry figure. ""Hello, Dusk."" The familiar figure said. His eyes widened. It really must be another message! They're trying to tell me something! But what? He thought. ""Watch out for what lurks in the dull and dark shadows. You must quickly find the shadow's shine, and release the light."" The other figure said. He studied the familiar cats face. Then it clicked why he recognized her.
""Shadowlight?"" He asked softly. Shadowlight was his sister, that he barely knew. She had died a bit before being made a warrior, and they gave her a warrior name as she was dying, to honor her sacrifice. He barely got to know since he was a very sickly kit, delaying his apprenticeship, and sparking his interest in being a medicine cat. He wanted to help other sick and injured cats, after spending alot of time in the medicine den. Then, after seeing his litter mate die, he fully dedicated himself to helping cats. ""Shadowlight... this better not be a prank!"" He said, confused and desperate since he didn't understand what they were saying,
""I'm not pranking you. We're being serious. Take this prophecy seriously, Dusk. You must figure it out, and it must be quick."" Shadowlight said, her starry coat glittering.
""What does it mean? Please give me a hint!"" He begged. ""Maybe even just a small hint? Anything! We're clueless!"" He said. Shadowlight sighed, and sat down.
""We can't help you. Actually, watch for the cinnamon coloured cat, and the dusk sky will bring the glow and the key--"" Shadowlight said stopping without finishing her sentence. Duskpaw stared at her, even more confused. The dream faded away, and he opened his eyes. He glanced around, and realized how late he'd slept. Silversky was sort herbs, as Ashkit darted inside. He hid behind Duskpaw, who as still curled up in his nest.
""What are you doing in here?"" He asked Ashkit. Ashkit looked up at him, his eyes shining. ""Are you playing a game? You're hiding in here for the game, aren't you?"" He asked. Ashkit nodded. He laughed. ""Alright. I'll show you a good hiding spot."" He said, and showed him a small crack in the den's wall. It was large enough for him to squeeze into, and have room to get comfortable. He could get out, as well. ""Here, use this to hide your scent."" He said, giving him an old crinkled thyme leaf. Ashkit disguised his scent with it, and then Duskpaw hid his scent trail.
""Are you done playing a game with Ashkit? I could use my apprentice."" Silversky said. Embarrassed, Duskpaw nodded. ""Good. Come sort this roll of herbs, and put them up. I'm going to bring Nettlenose something for her raspy breathing."" Silversky said, taking a few juniper berries and leaving the den. He continued sorting the herbs, and when he was done, Silversky had brought prey for them. ""I brought some food,"" She said around the pieces of prey.
She gave him his, and started to eat. He started on his, then glanced up at her. ""Oh, I need to talk to you later,"" He said as Softpaw padded into the den, and found Ashkit. They left the den, and her cleared his throat. ""Its about the prophecy."" He said. Silversky now understood why he didn't say it when Softpaw had entered. She nodded, as if to tell him to go on. ""Its figured out its Shadowlight who gave me the prophecy. She told me something new today, but I don't remember exactly what it was. It made no sense at all."" He said.
He explained the dream, and Silversky nodded. ""I think she's talking about you. Have you heard of the new apprentice in IslandClan? He's cinnamon. Maybe it's something to do with you and him. I believe his name is Glowpaw. She said something about a glow. But how do we fulfill the prophecy?"" She asked. Everything clicked for Duskpaw.
