It's midnight, when Ruri went out of her room after being awaken by nightmares. Passing by Toshi's room, she paused when she saw that the door is slightly open. She take a step forward to check if he's out of his room. She saw him inside getting up of the bed.
"What is it Moyoco-san?" he asks as he stands up.
"Nothing. Sorry..." she apologizes as she tries to close his door but Toshi walks to her.
"Nightmares again?" he asks worriedly.
Ruri is sitting in the dining room while Toshi prepares milk.
"Here." he puts on the table in front of her.
"Thank you sensei." She picks the mug to take a sip.
She shivers. She then saw Toshi went back to his room.
She remembers how he get her a blanket yesterday. She continue to drink her milk,
--It taste good. Drinking something warm like this is really a must during winter.--
A moment pass and Toshi went back to put a blanket on her. She guessed right, he went to just get her a blanket.
--How thoughtful of him.-- She felt warm, she was touched by the act of kindness.
Her teacher then sits on a chair in front of her.
"So mind telling me what causes these nightmares?" he asked smiling.
They stare at each other for seconds.
"Fumi-neesan didn't say something about these nightmares of yours." He followed.
"I... didn't tell her." She started.
"I don't want to trouble her more than I do now. So... please don't tell her." She asks of him.
"Not until you tell me what causes these." Toshi compromise. She had to look at him and take another sip before starting.
"The nightmares started to come when I lost my parents on a car accident." she explained holding her cup to warm her hands.
"That incident keeps flashing back to my mind like it happened yesterday. I still think it's unfair and cruel to left me alone. They're all I have..." her voice is low even though she tries to get her strength to voice out what she feels.
"After that, you have Fumi-neesan." He told her positively.
"I don't know how to thank her enough for raising me." As she nods.
"Now you also have me." He added. And she does not know how to respond to that. She just stare at him looking for words to say.
"Don't worry, after all of that pass, only good things will come. There will always be a happy ending." he assures her.
"Sensei believe in that false statement?" she asks.
"Maybe not a happy ending but finding little bits of happiness every day. It's good to look at things with a silver lining after all." he explains to motivate her.
"Destiny, happily ever after, soulmates... those things doesn't exist." she stated avoiding his gaze.
"Really? But you know... The simple hope we get from believing them gives us courage to make our dreams come true." he explains smiling to her.
She couldn't say anything more. And as she looks at him, what she see is a glimpse of hope that he's giving to her.
--How can his smile comforts someone like this?--
