HER

201 44 40

Sauntering into my rickety realm, alike a blissful boon,

Thankfully you came along, perchance a bit soon.

Your eyes seeking mine, your heart swearing solemnity,

Promising me a life brimming with love, driven by vivacity.

Abasing guilelessly the walls around, that I built over the aeons,

You nudged my heart into yearning for love and high spirits.

But in a haunting bygone in a similar way,

A lad arrived causing my heart to flutter and sway.

Gullible to his ways, I rendered myself with no second thought,

Only to be exploited and left in irremediable distraught.

Having lost my conviction in love and tenderness,

Pride and self rebuilt from broken pieces, is far from fullness.

Wary of your affable advances as I have amends to make,

Wounds to nurse and promises to keep for my Kin's sake.

A scrap of my salvaged heart discreetly, peers longingly at you,

Wondering if you'll linger around and indulge my obliterated dreams.

Flattered by your adoration for me, I fascinate in loneliness,

The glamorous idea of a happy us in our togetherness.

But I wake up to nightmares afresh, fuelled by the times of past,

I recognise atonement as the sole way, and put my heart on a fast.

I wonder why does your presence even matter,

After all I have known you only for so long.
