Just a short chapter. I got class in half an hour.
Ace really was a good girl, Bruce had to give her that.
When he came to Dick's room to check on him she was curled up at his feet, watching the door.
Except she was oddly skittish.
Bruce reached a hand out to feel his forehead, he has been having minor fevers, Ace growled slightly.
That was odd by itself. She only growls like that when she is extremely upset.
Bruce pulled back rather shocked and was about to scold the dog when she whined.
It was just a small whine. And she meekly wagged the tip of her tail.
As if she was apologizing to Bruce for her actions.
It seemed she was back to her old self until she sharply turned her head to the window.
She jumped off the bed to look out the large window, looking back at Bruce so he would follow her.
Her hackles were raised and her tail was up. She growled again but this time they were low, threatening growls.
Whatever was outside, she was not happy about it.
But Bruce couldn't see anything, even with the full glow of the moon.
There was nothing there.
But Ace was adamant there was.
Bruce however, was tired. It was a long night and he obviously didn't have Robin with him for company.
Ignoring the dog's constant growls, he gently but firmly patted her head.
"There's nothing there girl. Get back in bed with Dick."
Ace finally turned her head to look at him. She gave him the universal are you really that dumb? look that only dogs seem to master.
Nevertheless, she obeyed and climbed back in bed, this time laying at Dick's side.
Bruce gave her head one last pat before exiting the room and closing the door behind him.
Ace watched him go closely and then put her ears back as the door closed.
She looked back at the window and gave a low whine.
She knows there's something out there. But she also knows the humans are too blind to see it.
Except...
Ace lowered her head near Dick's hand and gave it a little lick.
Except for her boy. He could see it. Because it was after him, she knew that.
But how could he be kept safe? Her boy was still healing and she just didn't know what to do.
She was, after all, just a dog.
No matter. She would protect her boy no matter what.
