It was Halloween Night!!!... or day, since it was early in the morning. Though it was a holiday, the students at South Haven High had a half day to attend. It wasn't just any normal school day; there was a room decorating contest, a baking contest, a costume contest, and much more! Y/n and her friends had always won the most points during the past years, but the Mystics were determined to beat them.
Around a quarter of the kids skipped school that day, but everyone who showed up was in costume. Y/n was dressed up in the most adorable little onesie— an owl with wings! The theme of the Uuei's was animal onesies, while the Mystics dressed up as cliche Halloween characters, like witches and zombies and such.
Seven himself was just a ghost. A plain white sheet over his head with eye holes cut into it.
As the bell for homeroom rang that morning, everyone rushed to get to work. Y/n and her siblings were competing with Mr. Benva of course. They had already planned for weeks what they wanted to do for the contest. The zippers on their backpacks flew open as many colored papers spilled across the floor while art supplies and utensils were being tossed back and forth.
The Mystics had the same shenanigans going on in their room as well. Competing for Ms. Olka, the English teacher, their room was full of multiple paper sculptures. The lights in the room were dimmed down so that the small light bulbs inside the jack-o-lanterns will illuminate the area. "I think we did a pretty good job, team! No one will top something like this, I'm sure of it!" V congratulated the group for their hard work.
Secretly, Brin was peaking in through the classroom door's window at what they were doing, and rushed back to Mr. Benva's before being caught. "Looks like we have some competition here guys! The Mystics are making paper jack-o-lanterns that actually glow." She reported to everyone.
"I wouldn't be too worried. Yeah, they might have something going good for them. I hope the enjoy second place." Layla remarked sarcastically. "I agree! As long as we give it our all, I think we've got this!" Star said, as she hung a paper bat from the ceiling. In fact, there were many things hanging from the ceiling such as bats, ghosts, spiders and spiders webs, witches, and much more.
"Hey, Jaehee! Let's enter the costume contest together as a pair!" Lola begged. "Do you think we could win?" Jaehee wondered. Lola was dressed up as a witch, Jaehee as a black cat. "Of course we would! A witch and a black cat, one of the most iconic duos! There's no doubt in my mind we could get first place." "Alright, I'll do it!"
Y/n entered the costume contest with Vivian as her partner. An owl and a mouse— predator and prey, both nocturnal. Y/n went to sign them both up alone, but she was interrupted by a rude voice calling out her name.
"Hey, Y/n! Didn't anyone tell your friends it's Halloween, not pajama day?" A random girl remarked walking past her. "I..." but she had no chance to say anything back before the girl was out of her sight. Y/n sighed and continued to fill out her form.
"Would you hurry up?!"
Y/n flinched for a moment and looked behind her shoulder. There standing was Lola, growing impatient in line behind her. As much as Y/n wanted to retort, she was Seven's friend. "S-sorry..." Y/n apologized and went back to writing.
"Did you guys come to school this morning right after getting out of bed? Onesie are PJ's not real costumes. You're insane if you think you can get any placing in the contest in that thing. You should really-"
"Hey, um, Lola! Can I get your help for a second over here?" A familiar voice called out from the other end of the hall. "Oh, of course!" Her demeanor completely changed when he called her over, and she immediately rushed over to him. Through the sheet over the boy's head, it was hard to tell who it was. But that voice and those golden eyes said it all. Before they turned the corner to the hallway, Seven looked back and winked at Y/n. 'Did he just save me?!' Y/n's heart began to race. She pulled the gem of the necklace that Seven gave her a while ago out so she could see it, staring at her own reflection in it. "You really do care..."
The end of the day came soon. Everyone was just sitting around and waiting for the winners of all the contests to be announced on speaker. "Hey, Y/n, do you still have any food left in your locker? I'm starving." Liam requested. "Oh, sure thing!" Y/n got up and exited the room to get it. Upon arriving there, a note fell out of the locker door when she opened it.
"Meet me at the roof top if you get the chance"

Without thinking twice, Y/n rushed up to the third floor, approaching the stairway to the roof top. Students weren't allowed up in these parts. But she went anyway.
She slowly creaked the door open to see a figure at the railing, staring off into the fall sunset. As the door squeaked, Seven turned around quickly and noticed Y/n. Embarrassed, he quickly threw the sheet off of him, exposing who he was. His hands resided behind his back.
"You came..." Seven's cheeks were ungodly pink. "Of course I did!... You saved me from Lola earlier. She picks on me most because I can't really fight back..." Y/n thanked him, then noticed the awkward pose he was standing in. "What's behind your back?" She tried peaking behind him but he turned so she couldn't see.
"I have a gift for you, actually." He smiled brightly. "Another one? Seven, you're so sweet..." Silence. Bad thoughts began to race through Y/n's head. "W-well? What is it?" She asked nervously. 'What if this was all still a trick? What if he's gonna throw some weird bug at me or sand in my eyes and record my reaction to make fun of me?' She sweated bullets until Seven pulled from behind his back a mini chocolate box.
"Here." He handed it to Y/n as she stared at it for a while. 'It's not Valentines Day?' Y/n questioned to herself in her mind. She flipped over the box to see if there was a date attached to it. "I-is this some kind of joke? Are these leftovers that are spoiled and are supposed to make me sick or-" "Y/n." Her heart stopped as he spoke her name. "Why do you think I would do that?" He questioned. "I-I'm really sorry... no one's every really wanted to be my friend before. I can't tell the difference between if someone is trying to trick me or not. More or less, no one has ever liked me the way you do. I just... thought it might've been too good to be true." She averted her gaze.
Seven grabbed her by the shoulders to force her to look him in the eye, then quickly kissed her on the lips for a few seconds. Both of their faces were beet red, and both were silent until he broke the silence. "Was that too good to be true?"
Y/n blinked a couple times, trying to process what had just happened. "S-Seven!" He chuckled at her reaction. "Okay, okay. I'll wait longer before I do that again."
'Again?'
"Anyway, if you don't believe that the chocolates are fresh, I'll eat one with you." They both ate one together. They were perfectly fine.
"Thank you so much, Seven!" Y/n began gobbling down the chocolates.
"I know it's not Valentines Day, but I was hoping... that you'd be mine anyways?"...
Y/n stopped her munching. "You're... serious...?" "More sure than I've ever been before."
"Of course I will!"
The new couple spent the last half hour on the roof, talking up a storm about anything under the sun. They clicked so well together. When the bell rang to signal them out of school, they hugged and said their goodbyes.
Every thing seemed fine for them at the moment. What they did know is that absolutely no one... no one... could know about this relationship.
((It's a little early, but happy Halloween!))
