Dear Diary,
Hi, it’s me, Catherine. My mum and dad gave you to me so that I can “look back” at you when I get older. I don’t know the real reason why I need to have a diary, but maybe when I get older I’ll know. They told me to write down everything that happened today and what I feel throughout the day. So here it goes.
You know, I’m an adoptive child of my parents and they enrolled me here in Academy of Amaretus in Chula Vista while my parents work in Los Angeles. I miss them so much. My roommate, Alex Reed is currently sleeping like she always do. Well, I should be sleeping right now also but I remembered you and I badly want to write down something personal, so I better keep you out of sight so no one can read what’s inside you. For this day, school sucks.
Sucks in a way that my professor in math told me to do the phytagorean theorem and I did, and she gave the whole class a one hour worth of lecturing about not mastering the theorem when I actually did it effortlessly and after class, my classmates kept on looking at me like I’m a freak, good thing Alex, Jillian, Elle and Travis came to save me. What made this day sucks is that I heard two girls talking about me in the bathroom. I was on my way to Mrs. Marshall’s practice for our school choir competition when I overheard them. The first one was like “You know what? I hate that Catherine Hatfield!” and the second girl went on to say “Why?”, then the first girl said that “Because she’s just an adoptive daughter of Caroline and George Hatfield and she gets the best service and treatment here in the academy, not us who are rightful for the treatment. My mother is a duchess of Monaco and my father is the political adviser of the ambassador. We don’t even know who her real parents are. Maybe her parents are just low-profile ones that’s why they gave her away to that rich couple. Catherine’s just a charity because the Haltfields gives her money. She’s a gold digger.” Ouch. You know what? The thermometer broke.
I got out of the cubicle, made the girl (who is by the way, Trinity Dillard, my enemy ever since the world began) face me. A small commotion happened but was stopped by Ms. Hazel Roux. Gosh, if Ms. Hazel didn’t stop us I could’ve done something bad to her, say like pulling her hair. The school year’s about to end, can teenage drama just stop for a while? Ugh! I want to kill that witch!
Xoxo,
Catherine Michelle Siena Rios Hatfield
So, it really happened. I know that everyone’s interested to know who and where my real parents are, and they spread this kind of news around the school. I can sometimes hear the guards and janitors talking about me whenever I’ll pass them, but I didn’t care and instead, I kept on walking with my head up high. I don’t know what I will do at time and how long will I stand that kind of happenings. Whenever I’ll call and tell this to mum, she’ll just tell me to be strong and to never mind them because they don’t know anything about my life. When she will give the phone to dad, he’ll just say, “They don’t need to know what you know”.
While I was writing on my diary, I didn’t notice Alex to get up and go to the bathroom. She was there, watching me as I write in there, and look at my expressions while writing it. When I finished and was about to keep it, she snatched it from my hands.
“Give me that!” I said, like a child whose stuff toy was taken by someone. She laughed.
“Reach for it, Catherine. Oh, mademoiselle, reach for it!” She said, teasing me. My friends always call me “mademoiselle” every time I’ll be pissed. The English meaning of it is “madam”, and I am treated as royalty here in school and even in our home, that’s why they’re all calling me that so I can return my poise. But in this case, Alex isn’t telling me to return my poise. She is actually asking me to break it.
