(authors note: sorry for the sucky chapter lol)

I tossed and turned before opening my eyes to turn off my alarm clock. As I reached over to my nightstand, I felt dried tears on my cheeks and in the corner of my eyes.
My eyes were heavy with exhaustion. They slowly closed but I couldn't fall asleep. My mind was racing. I couldn't stop thinking about last night. I pulled myself together. I tried to think of something else.
"Quinn! Wake up!" I heard Faith's voice from her room across the hallway. I rubbed my eyes and sat up. I sat there. I looked around my room. Faith poked her head in my room. "Come on, sleepyhead. You don't want to be late on your second day of high school." She said, with a stressed tone.
"You okay?" I asked her. "Uh, yeah." She sighed, and closed my door. Maybe she heard mom and dad last night. I wondered. I walked over to my closet and pulled out a pair of jeans. I shuffled through my shirts and pulled out a fuzzy white and black sweater.
I got dressed and pulled a chair up to my mirror. I sat there and pulled my hair into a messy bun. As I was pulling my chair back to my desk, my phone chimed. I walked over and smiled when I saw that I got a text from Peggy.

Peggy
Good morning! Hope it's wonderful!

Quinn
aww! thanks!

Peggy
I'm joining the band. Are you?

I thought about how I would respond to that. I have been playing the flute since 5th grade, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to be in the concert band.
I glanced to the corner of my room where the instrument case was sitting.

Quinn
maybe. I'm not sure yet.

I sat my phone on my bed and walked downstairs into the kitchen. My dad was sitting at the breakfast bar with his head in his hands. "Good morning, dad." I spat out, my voice sounding shaky.
I instantly regretted saying that because he looked up and glared at me and put his head down again.
I looked away and grabbed a box of cereal and milk from the fridge. Did I do something wrong? Why did he glare at me? I brought my bowl into the dining room
and sat at the head of the table. I ate and worried about my dad.
Why was he so angry? What did I do? Does it have anything to do with mom? After I ate, I grabbed my phone and backpack and I went to school.
Ally and Peggy weren't there yet, so I sat under a tree and pulled out my notebook. I wrote some more and did some messy sketches.
Liam, one of Ben's friends walked up to me. "Whatcha doing?" I closed my notebook. "Nothing." I began to put my notebook into my backpack. "Sure you aren't. Anyway, are you joining band?" He asked me with a smirk.
I looked at him. Why is everyone asking me? "I don't know. Why?" He looked over to Ben and a few of his friends and shook his head. Ben shook his head, as if he was saying no, or don't do it. "You should," Liam chuckled. "The concert band is supposed to be super fun."
I rolled my eyes as he walked away. Ally's mom's car pulled into the drop off loop and she walked out of her car. "Hey, Quinn." She waved. "What's up with the whole band thing? Why is everyone so obsessed with me joining?" I blurted out. Ally smiled, obviously holding back laughter.
"Nothing, nothing. Don't worry about it." Ally winked. "What are you hiding?" I glared. "I told you, nothing. Don't worry about it." She giggled. The bell rang and I walked inside and went to class. In home room, the teacher handed out band sign up sheets and audition information.
I stuffed the sheet into my back pocket and talked to Harper the rest of class. After school, I was sitting on my bed thinking. I remembered about the band sign up sheet. I grabbed my flute from the corner and adjusted my fingers on the instrument so all of my fingers could reach the keys. I blowed into the flute and a soft, low note came out.
I turned the pages in my music book to a page of advanced sheet music and attempted to play it. I messed up a few times but I finally played it correctly. I smiled and turned to another page and played the slow, calm tune.
When I was flipping through my music, a loose piece of paper fell out. I picked it up and found that it was an old piece of paper with a incomplete song written on it. I remembered that I tried to write a song but I gave up. I set it on my desk and wrote some more. I took a break and checked how it sounded on my flute.
I smiled when it sounded good. I walked downstairs to to living room where Faith was last sitting. She wasn't there, but my dad was sitting there, watching football. "Where's Faith?" I asked.
He looked up at me with and emotionless stare. "Upstairs." He grunted. As I turned around to walk upstairs, I heard the door creak open. Mom! I ran to the door, but it was just My dog, Alice, pushing her way through her dog door and slightly pushed the door open. Where's mom?
I sighed and walked into the family room and turned on the computer and I played video games for a while. I got up once to make myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for dinner, but I went right back to the computer.
I heard my dad snoring in the other room, but it didn't bother me. Around 11pm, Faith walked into the room. "Are you going to bed?" She said, concerned. "Eventually." I shrugged.
I stayed up for a few more hours. Around 2:30 am, my mom came home. I jumped up to greet her, but something about her seemed off. She looked around, not seeing me.
"Hi, mom!" I whispered, trying to catch her attention. She glared at me, with an angry look on her face. I stepped back, in fright. What's wrong with my parents?! I panicked.
