DJ was sitting at her desk reading a book while her little sister Michelle played her new video game and her other little sister laid in her bed reading magazines like she had been doing the day before. The last time she even heard Stephanie's voice was last night when she picked up the phone to call Steve and heard Stephanie talking to Gia like she had promised she would. That made her smile, but that was hours ago, and she hasn't heard her voice since then.
She heard a knock on her door and hoped it was Stephanie, even though she was still healing, but her hope was dashed when her Aunt Becky opened the door and walked into her room.
"Hey, Deej, if you're not busy Stephanie wants to talk to-"
DJ snapped her head around and practically flew from the room before Becky could even finish her sentence.
She knocked on the door then opened it when she heard a meek "come in" from the other side of the door.
"Hey Steph." She said walking in and closing the door behind her. "Aunt Becky said you wanted to-"
"Talk to you, yeah, I want to talk to you." She admitted.
DJ bit her lip and took a deep breath. "Okay. You can talk to me about anything."
Stephanie looked down at her hands. "I'm sorry that I said, what I said, about you not caring. I know that's not true. You're not to blame."
DJ stepped closer to the bed. "Steph, I care about you so much, and it hurts me that you would hurt yourself instead of coming to me if something was wrong, and something is clearly wrong." DJ sat down on Stephanie's bed careful not to sit on her leg.
"I'm sorry. I didn't want to hurt you. I just wanted... I wanted to hurt me."
"Steph, seeing you hurt is what hurts me, especially if you are the one hurting yourself. I love you and I don't want to see you hurt, by anyone, not even you. I want you to be okay, but you're not. You need help, Steph."
Stephanie frowned. "Gia said that. She said I need therapy or whatever, but I don't want to be some messed up kid in therapy." She sighed and pouted.
DJ took her hand. "Hey Steph, getting help doesn't say how messed up you are, it says how strong you are. It says that you have a problem and you want to fix it, instead of-" DJ gulped. "-ending it. If you get help you'll start to feel better. I'll talk to dad with you if you want." Stephanie shook her head. "You need to talk to him about th-"
"No. Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky. They are the only ones I want to tell.. Dad would panic and freak out and Joey might crack and I need him to still be Joey.. I need to laugh. The kids are too young and they can't find out. I'll talk to Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky, only."
DJ sighed, but she nodded her head. "Okay, I'll go get them then." She stood to leave, but Steph pulled her hand making her sit back down again.
"Not now. When Dad and Joey leave tonight." Stephanie stated. "I don't want to risk one of them walking in."
DJ sighed again and nodded. "Okay. Get some rest and when they leave I'll tell Uncle Jesse and Becky that you want to talk to them alone. I guess I'll watch the kids for awhile tonight."
"Just distract them or something. I need you here, Deej. Please."
DJ gave her a soft, sad, smile. "I'll be here. I guess Michelle can watch them for awhile. We'll be home anyway."
"Thanks Deej." Stephanie sniffed.
DJ nodded and left the room. She closed the door behind her and leaned against it. 'How did it get this bad?' She wondered, but she knew that would be asked later, probably by their Uncle Jesse so she would get her answer. She just hoped that it wasn't because of her. She couldn't handle that guilt. The only thing worse then her sister being hurt was hurting herself and the only thing worse than that was if she was hurting her.
DJ wiped a tear and went back to her room. She walked over to her desk and picked up the phone. "Hey.. um.. I need you." She cried into the phone.
