Julia has lived on Nova Island for six years. After the trauma she experienced there, she decided to go home. It's been ten years since her last visit to the small seaside town. She didn't expect to see her arch-enemy sitting in her parents' living...
Fifty men walk into Rivera's restaurant and start yelling at Luca in Italian.
His face pales, and he apologises to them in his native tongue. He leads the group to a table, and we start to devise a plan to rescue the girls.
A beeping sound comes from Luca's phone, and he looks at it. A smile spreads across his face. "Ah, smart girl. She's activated the tracker on her wedding band."
A tall guy with dark hair and blue eyes looks at me and says. "Who are you?" I can tell he has a lot of power and must be the head of his family.
Holding my hand to him, I say, "Cole Mason. It's nice to meet you."
A smile spreads across his face. "Ah, I recognise you. You're the kid that was supposed to take over for the family in New York, but your father took off before he could take over, leaving your Uncle and his family in the seat."
"That's right. I also have to fight my family to keep that cousin in the head seat. He deserves to be there, and I'm where I want to be. Can we stop talking and get ready to get the girls back from wherever they are."
He holds his hand up. "Sorry, dude. I shouldn't have talked about your family. I don't know anything about them. I'm Lucias Reale."
It's good to have a name to go with the face.
Luca brings the laptop over to me and points at the map. "They're being held in a building in Las Vegas. I have a few men out that way, and they will stake out the place until we get there."
"It's going to take us 3 hours and 47 minutes. A lot can happen in that time. Whoever has the girls can cause a lot of harm to them," I say, running my hands through my hair.
I should have stayed out here with Julia instead of talking to Luca. It could have been avoidable.
Luca pulls his phone out of his pocket and dials a number. Turning on the loudspeaker, he waits for the person on the other end to pick up.
Voice: Hello, this is Vincent.
Luca: Hey, Vincent. What have you found at the warehouse?
Vincent: People are going in and out. Two females seem to be in charge inside, and your girls are on the bottom level.
Luca: Are they hurt?
Vincent: I can't tell if they're hurt. Your girl sits on the ground, and the other sits on a chair. I can only see their body frames and nothing else.
Me: That's not fucking helpful.
Grabbing a chair, I throw it across the room. "If Julia's hurt, everyone in that fucking warehouse won't come out alive." I type the address into my phone and walk out the door. Opening the driver's side of my car, I climb in. As I'm about to slam the door shut, I hold it by hand. Following the hand, I see that it's Lucias Reale.
"Get out of the car. I'll drive. You're not in the right frame of mind, and I don't want to see you cause an accident. Unlike you, I'm worried about my niece but know how to keep a cool composure."
My phone buzzes, and I pull it out of my pocket. Looking at it, I see 'Amalia' flash across the screen.
Me: Hey, Amalia.
Amalia: Don't, hey, me. Have you found her yet?
Me: She's at a warehouse in Las Vegas. I'm getting in the car and heading over there.
Amalia: Give me the address. I'll send some men over there to help you out with it. It's going to take me a while to get there, as I have a few things to take care of here.
Me: You don't have to come out.
Amalia: Yes, I do. My friend is in trouble, and I'd do anything to help her. I will call Brielle and let her know what's going on. She deserves to know.
Me: No, if you tell her. She'll tell her husband, and then there will be more people involved in this shit storm, and I don't want that.
Amalia: Fine, I won't call her. Call me when you get our girl out of there.
Me: I will. I'm sure Julia will love to see a friendly face.
After hanging up the phone, I climbed out of the car and moved to the passenger side. Climbing inside, I put the seatbelt on and waited for Lucias to pull out of the parking lot.
He reverses the car and puts it in drive, taking us away from the restaurant. "Luca, his men, and my men are following behind. We're going to get the girls out, and then you can take yours home."
Shaking my head, I say, "I think we're going to stay in Vegas for a couple of days. I don't want to travel home and have her father see her if she's injured. He has enough to worry about, especially with his wife not being well."
"Have you told her father? Because if you haven't, I'm sure he'd kick your ass for not telling him."
Turning towards him, I say, "I called him. He's not happy about it since his sons are part of the team that took her."
"Fucking hell. I never thought someone could have family members that want them dead besides ours. What did she do to her brothers for them to do this to her?"
"She hasn't done anything. Julia had been living abroad for a couple of years, and before that, she was living in New York with a girl she thought was her best friend. This girl is also behind Julia, who is being taken. She's the one that organised everything that went down at the restaurant."
Lucias pulls the car to the side of the road. "She has several people with skills on her side. Do you know who they work for? I want to know everything before I storm the building to save my niece."
"I don't know anything," I tell him truthfully. "From what I could tell is that they are professional. So, they have sniper training and could have been part of the army."
He looks in the side view mirror. "Can you tell me the name of the girl involved in this? I want my men to run a background check on her. There's probably stuff you missed out when you searched her."
I never searched her name. I didn't think it would be bad news for her, but I will have to do a background check on everyone who enters our lives. I want Julia to be safe and not put in a situation like this again.
"Veronica Kilmer."
Lucias passes me the phone. "Call Jake and let him know what I want him to do. I'm going to concentrate on driving now." He pulls back onto the road as I make the phone call.
During the conversation, I learned much about Veronica and realised how dangerous that girl was.
