Tiana
"Wake up. We're finally here." Kuya tapped my shoulder lightly as he was trying to wake me up after the long plane ride. I roamed my eyes around the vicinity and saw people leaving with their luggage. I checked the window beside me and saw that we are indeed here. We finally landed in the Philippines.
I held my brother's arm and excitedly told him, "Are we going to eat some puto bumbong later? Since it's Christmas season, I'm pretty sure there are lots of 'em." He smiled and flicked his finger on my forehead as a response, "Too early for that!"
When we got out, we saw a lot of people waiting for their relatives with smiles on their faces. I searched for ours too, although I wasn't really sure of their faces because it's been a while since I got home here. As I was checking them one by one, I saw someone holding a big cardboard with our names on it.
I quickly ran off to them as I saw my aunts and uncles waiting for us, holding lots of flowers and stuff.
The day passed by so quickly. They took us home with their van and happened to pass by a lot of places. Although it's not yet the actual day for Christmas, streets were well-lit with Christmas lights and even the small alleys were merry with little children singing the classic Christmas In Our Hearts while shaking their recycled instruments made by bottle caps and thumping their plastic drums. The sidewalks were filled with vendors selling lots of sweet treats and toys to give as a gift. The flea markets were full too.
When we got home, the feeling of nostalgia struck in me and the cozy ambiance wrapped around my self. Mom was preparing for our dinner and dad was fixing Joshua's (my little brother) bicycle. When the two saw us, they immediately gave us the warmest welcome we've ever received ever since we returned here.
Today is December 23rd, two days to go 'til Christmas. I wonder what will happen in this year's holiday?
As I got out of the shower room, I went inside my room and dried my hair there with a towel. I couldn't help but be lost in thoughts.
I was about to sleep when I suddenly heard a yell from my mom which stopped me from doing so.
"DON'T SLEEP WITH YOUR HAIR WET!"
Sighs. There she goes again.
