It was Yuma's first day at her new school and to be honest she wasn't all that worried. She'd either make friends or not. She never really had any problems with other kids but if she had to throw some hands she would be more than happy to get her built up anger out on someone who needed a good beating.
She woke up to her alarm and went to her bathroom to be met with her bed head, sleepy eyed reflection. She rubbed her eyes and threw some cold water on her face to wake herself up. After that she actually washed her face, brushed her teeth and straightened her shoulder length hair.
Being pretty lazy she put on some black joggers and a white tube top with a black hoodie and some random sneakers she found under her bed. She eased her way down the narrow stairs of her attic room and made her way to the kitchen where her mom and dad were."Yuma!" Her dad jumped back bumping into his wife who rolled her eyes and shoved him forward. "Sorry honey." He whispered to her and patted her on the back as she cleaned something from the ground. Turning back to his daughter who now had a slight smirk on her face he pulled something out from his pocket very discreetly and swiped it to her. He leaned forward over the counter that separated them and whispered into her ear. " There's a shop down the road, go buy yourself something before your mother tries to make breakfast." She nodded and stuffed the twenty dollar bill in her pocket and snubbed her book bag that sat on the couch. Her mother groaned as she got up from the ground. " Yuma, honey, do you want me to make you some-" She was cut off by a "Love you guys!" And a door slamming shut. Her eyes immediately took to her husband who was already staring at her with a smirk.
As Yuma ran out of her house she realized it was raining a little, she looked up and down the road she lived on and spotted a small convenience store located on the corner of her street. She smiled to herself and jogged there. Once she arrived and pushed the door full of stickers open a bell rang and she was greeted by an elderly lady standing at the counter. " Hello~" She could tell that the woman wasn't from around here due to her slight accent that slipped out. Yuma replied with a quiet hello and continued to the fridges that radiated white light. Scanning the area she found a burrito and snatched it up along with a bottle of off brand Cola. She brought it up to the counter and pulled out the money her father had given her.
"I suppose you're new around here." The elderly woman spoke up breaking the silence.
" Yeah, I actually moved here two days ago."
"Oh so what school are you going to?" It seemed odd to Yuma that the woman was asking so many questions but she brushed it off and told her. "Jackson High." The old woman's face lit up as she finished ringing up her order. " My grand daughter is starting there too!" Yuma nodded. " W-what's her name?" She handed her the money. "Mary, oh you should meet her! I'm sure you two will get along just fine!" She rung up the money and handed Yuma the change along with her bag of food.
"Well I'll make sure to say hi." She thanked the woman and left the shop whose lights were still one of few in the darkish sky. As she walked away she took one last glance at the shop and noticed it's name. 'Cordero's Corner Convenience'.
"Cute." She chuckled and continued to school. As she arrived she put her hoodie up and put in her wireless headphones so no one would try to start a conversation with her. She put on a random song and pushed through the doors. You could see students roaming the halls but she assumed most were in their home room classes by then. She had memorized her schedule but still had to meet with the school's guidance counselor so she located the office and went to the front desk.
"I'm new here, have a meeting with Mr.Montero." The woman behind the desk nodded towards a door on Yuma's left side. She thanked her and took a deep breath before opening the door that had a sign on it that read, ' Troubled Teen's Guide'.
'Must have a bad sense of humor 'cause that wasn't funny.' She thought to herself as she opened the door that made a creaking sound.
"Come in." A deep voice interrupted the silence other than her music. She went inside the room and closed the door behind her. She took a seat without looking up.
