"Are we almost there?" Jake's little sister Ashley was whining, As the driver took another turn down onto a dirt road Jake looked out the window to admire the view on where his family was moving. As the car started slowing down as they approached a small town Jake managed to catch a glimpse of a sign "Pine's Grove, We're almost there." Jake's father mumbled to the kids in the back. The car drove through the small western looking town as people shot them awkward looks and some glared at the car as they drove through, until they pulled up too a blue house with the paint ever so worn making it look more teal while the windows were covered in dust. The car stopped in the driveway and looked up looking disappointing "Well.... We're here." he opened the door and climbed out as Jake and Ashley got out of the back, "Ewe this place looks like a poor ocean." Ashley said in disgust
"Oh shush Ashley.... It's better then our old home..." Jake said as a depressed look spread across his face. "Mom would be proud of all of us, for moving on and leaving the past behind." Jake's father said as he too had a saddened look spread across his face "Leaving the past in the past huh? Then don't mention her again." Jake said in a tempered tone as he stormed up too the house and twisted the door knob. The door slowly creaked open and revealed a dusty and trashed interior as more rage spread across Jake's face he turned around and stormed down the steps and started to march down the sidewalk. "Jake! J-Jake...... Just be home before dinner!..." Jake's dad yelled too him as he faded into the distance. "I hate this stupid place... I hate it all. I hate that you left, I hate that I had too lea-."
"There's some things to like about this town you know?" A mysterious voice had said. Jake turned around to see a girl with long black hair and green eyes sat on a stone wall, "I mean... well there is a few things to love about this town, for example.... Well... Fuck... Never mind, at least the people are nice?" The mysterious woman had smiled pitifully trying to get him to smile, Jake couldn't help but to let out a small grin and a light chuckle. "Yeah? Well then why did we get all these crazy looks on the way here? And what's your name? I'm talking to a random girl I don't even know."
"Whoa whoa chill, My name is Allison, One question down now one to go, The reason people were probably giving you looks is because you're insane." Allison replied
"Insane? Oh I'm insane huh? Says the one who is just sitting here on a wall, probably hiding, Where did you even come from I just walked by here and didn't see anyone."
"Again, one question at a time please, I have been sitting here long before I saw you, it's a nice day out a girl can't enjoy the weather? And yes you are insane, Moving to a town like this? After everything has happened? All the people gone missing? You didn't know any of this?" Allison asked concerned "Wait.... What? No, that's all bullshit, you are just trying to freak me out." Jake said in a worried tone "Am I? Why do you think the house was so cheap? Fun fact that house was where the most recent person went missing... I think... His name was... Jason? Yeah Jason and his girlfriend Amanda, don't believe me go ask you dad." Allison looked up at the setting sun and suddenly got a worried look on her face "I think it's time to go, I'll see you around, maybe at school or something?" Allison then jumped off and quickly ran down the sidewalk out of Jake's view. "What's her problem?" Jake asked as he turned around and headed home.
Later that day as the sun slowly crept away behind the hills of Pines Grove Jake sat at the table with his father and little sister, as they started eating dinner Jake finally got the courage to speak up and ask his father "So... I ran into this girl earlier today." and before he could speak anymore his father cut him off "Oh my boys got a little girlfriend already?"
"No, God no. She.... told me about this town." immediately his fathers slight grin faded away and he had an anxious look on his face as he dropped his fork and slid back from the table. "Alright I'm going to bed you'll have to tell me more tomorrow when we enroll you into school." Jake's father then hurried out of the kitchen and as Jake heard his footsteps go up the stairs he looked out of his kitchen window "Wait what?..." He looked more intensely out the window trying to see clearer "What is it?" Ashley asked
"Nothing... Just thought I saw something, probably just a raccoon." Jake said as he cleared up the worrying thoughts going through his head. "I'm gonna go to bed as well, you should get some sleep soon. We gotta go apply for school tomorrow." Jake said to Ashley as he too faded into the upstairs. As Jake lay in his bed and the moonlight filled his room through the dusty window he couldn't help but think about what Allison had said, soon enough his mind had cleared and as he started to drift off he had a dream, where he was standing in the kitchen and that figure stood in the darkness and make a demonic crackling howl, but as soon as it started it went away into nothingness. Jake slept throughout the night as the moonlight shined in through his window and a voice spoke in the sweetest tone "It's okay Jake.... I won't let it get you." As a hand ran through his hair.
