"Jake! Wake up, time for school." His father uttered from a sleepy yawn, Jake rubbed his eyes and looked at the window to watch the sun shine in; the light showing the dust bunnies collecting on the window sill "I'm up... I'm up." Jake replies as he reluctantly throws the blanket off of him and gets up. "Breakfast is ready, eat quick the bus will be here in.." Jake's father checks his watch "around thirty, thirty five minutes." Jake sighs letting out his morning drowsiness before walking to the dresser and grabbing his outfit for the day "Dress nice, it's your first day... try to make a good impression." Jake's father adds before walking downstairs. "Make a good impression." Jake mimics as he puts on a black shirt with a line that says I'd rather be anywhere but here, as he puts on his pair of jeans he walks to the bathroom to find that it's occupied "Come on Ash, I gotta get ready."
"You got to get ready? I still have to put on my concealer, eye liner, lipstick and" Jake interrupts her before she can finish "Forget it, I'll just go take a wiz outside." His sister made a wretched squeal as she said "Way TMI dude, that is disgusting." Jake shrugged it off as he walked downstairs and through the kitchen to the back door. Jake pulls the door open with ease as the morning breeze hits him and floods him with relief, blowing through his hair before dying down to what would feel like nothing. As he walks to the tree line and unzips his pants he hears a twig snap, He scans his eyes through the trees and finds the culprit. "Stupid squirrels..." he mumbles as he urinates before jumping at the sound of his fathers voice "Breakfast is getting cold and you only have 20 minutes before the bus is here!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" He shouts back as he rolls his eyes and mumbles "Almost made me dribble on myself." He zips his pants back up and heads inside to see the plate of bacon and eggs that he must've overlooked on his way through. "Smells great dad." Jake replied as he sat at the table, Jake just stared down at his plate while Ashley stomped down the stairs "Can you be any louder?" Jake's father replied with a sour tone in his voice; Jake chuckled quietly as Ashley shot him a glare, before sitting at the table herself. As Their Father sat at the table sipping his morning brew of coffee the steam rising from the mug he father smacked his lips obnoxiously as he set his coffee back on the table; Jake and his Ashley haven't touched the food on their plates instead they just looked at it with disgust before their father said "I know... it's not as good as mom's cooking but I'm doing my best." Jake immediately pushed his chair back and grabbed his jacket off the back of the chair with a weak smile on his face he said "Thanks dad, I'm going outside to the bus now." Jake's father looked saddened as Jake turned around and walked out the door and down the driveway. Ashley soon runs out of the house and yells "Jake wait up!" she jotted towards him as he leaned against a brick hedge wall, he rolled his eyes as Ashley caught up to him. "What could you possibly want from me?" Jake replied in a hazy tone. Ashley sat up on the brick wall and twirled her foot slowly as she looked down, "I just.... Its the first day of school... and I... I'm a bit nervous." Jake looked looked at the ground and muttered "Nothing ever changes with the first day of school... They try to see how much they can get by you... In other words, the first day makes the rest of the school year." Ashley looked at Jake with a worried look in her eyes "What... do you mean? So if I mess up the first day then the rest of the year is going to be bad?!?" Jake looked up at her with a mischievous look in his eyes as a devilish smirk spread across his face "Yep... So don't mess it up, Or you'll be the laughing stock of the whole school." A small chuckle eased out of Jake as Ashley's worried look turned into anger she opened her mouth to say something before she was cut off "Ooh, Tell me Jakie is this your sister? She's got quite a fire in her eyes." Allison was leaning against a tree behind them; they couldn't believe that they didn't even notice her, it was almost as if she wasn't even there in the first place. Jake quickly snapped back at Allison "Don't ever call me Jakie." Allison tilted her head in confusion as she looked at Jake "Why so hostile? I was just making conversation." Ashley looked at Allison then at Jake then back at Allison. "That's what our mother used to call him."Jake shot Ashley a mean glare before Allison chuckled softly as Jake held his glare at Ashley "Oh so a mommas boy are you?" Allison asked. Ashley looked down at the ground while twirling her foot. "Actually... our moms dead..." Ashley replied to Allison"Oh... I'm sorry... I... I didn't know..." Jake let go of his glare at Ashley before turning to see the bus coming down the road. The bus came to a stop in front of them, as the bus driver opened the doors he looked at Jake and Ashley "You the new kids? Well let me welcome you too Pines High School... Now get on, I don't have all day." Jake walked onto the bus, Ashley was following before she stopped and turned around "Allison you com-....." Allison was gone, as if she wasn't even there in the first place. The bus driver harshly yelled at Ashley "I said get on!" Ashley had a frightened expression on her face as she quickly caught up to Jake trying to find a seat. "C-can I sit you with Jake?.." Jake rolled his eyes and muttered "Yeah, but don't get used to it." Ashley had a joyful look on her face as Jake approached an empty seat. Jake motioned for Ashley to get in then he sat down himself. He could feel their eyes staring at him, Admiring? No they were Curious? A little but mostly merciless, he could feel it, he knew that what was to come was not going to be good. The bus jerked as it started to leave the stop, Jake didn't take his eyes off of the seat in front of him. Silence, that was all that was around him, not a single word left anybody as the bus continued going down the road. "Howdy." a female voice said from behind him, Jake didn't look. "I said Hey" she repeats again as she moves to the seat across from him "Cat got your tongue?" Jake looked at her
"I hate Cats" Jake replied trying to shut down her conversation
"There we go! Now was that so hard? trying to talk can't be that bad can it?"
"Well let's see.... Oh wait I don't care" Jake replied yet once again. She leaned closer to him and whispered in his ear "You know, you don't have to have this tough guy exterior on, I can see through that." Jake froze in shock as he thought to himself; How... she just met me.. how could she see through me so easily? Jake looked at Ashley but she was in a far away land, as she looked out the window. The girl sat back in her seat and smiled "Struck a nerve did I?" Jake looked at her and was about to say something before she cut him off "My name's Jennifer" Jake was shocked once again. "That was what I was about to ask", he thought to himself; She laughed softly and looked into Jake's eyes "Your eyes say a lot." Jake looked back at her and into her eyes. "Yeah they do.." Jennifer smiled slightly and tilted her head
"What do you see in my eyes?" She asked curiously, Jake paused as hem looked into her eyes; this feeling was weird, he couldn't get a clear reading of her eyes and that is something he had learned to do from his mother, she tough him how to read people not by their faces or personality but from their eyes. Jake continued looking deeper into her eyes until she interrupted him "Can't see much can you?" Jennifer smiled.
"No... I can't" Jake replied softly; Jennifer blinked and when her eyes opened again Jake caught but a mere glimpse of her. What he saw was what he had felt for the longest time. Loneliness. He opened his mouth to say something but yet once again she cut him off "I uh... I should get back to my seat.." Jake watched as she got up and walked behind him. He thinks to himself "Did she know what I seen?" Jake questions himself more and more not only about Jennifer but about Allison and just this town in general, he didn't know what was happening in this town but in all honesty. He couldn't care less about it, he was just glad to be out of the old town, out of bad memories and the apologies. He was just glad to start new.
The bus turned sharply which caught Jake's attention as it came to a quick stop jerking everyone again, the footsteps of the person coming up the small steps echoed through the back of his mind as a teenage looking boy with a harsh look on his face walked onto the bus, he walked through the aisle everybody immediately moved their legs and all backpacks out of the way as he slowly made his way to the back of the bus. He stopped mere inches away from Jake and looked down at Jake. Jake looked into his eyes and he would never forget what he saw. Evil what felt like Pure Evil. The boy grunted and fixed his jacket as he walked past and sat in the back of the bus, Jake didn't need to turn and look he could feel the glare from him burning through the seats and looking through him. Jake shook his head and got rid of the feeling as the bus pulled into the School. Jake could feel the enormous presence of the pressure as the bus pulled up to the drop off point. This was going to be Fun.
