THIS BOOK IS DEDICATED TO ALL SONS AND DAUGHTERS THAT WERE VICTIMS OF THIS ISSUE.
In a middle class area in the town was a middle class building towards the Abdulmumin Street road Maiduguri.
The house contain three bedroom apartment and a parlour joint with a dinning area, the kitchen was opposite to the parlour and bedrooms were from each side of the building each with it's toilet inside.
Seated on the three seater cushion was a woman wearing her glasses reading a book while little Amina was eating her lunch on the carpet beside her Mum.
Suddenly a Salam just came into the room and Mum Amina raised her head answeing the Salam "Wa alaykum Salam".
Standing by the entrance was an elderly woman, seems this is a new face to her. By recognizing this she smiled and said "come in Ma'am you're welcomed". The woman smiled back and came in.
Mum Amina shifted a bit on the cushion for the woman to sit on then Amina greeted her in her soft voice, the woman answered her but watching the food on Amina's plate in bewilderment. It was a jollof rice with 2 parts of peppered chicken on it. What a healthy lunch she thought.
Mum Amina realized this but ignored and started exchanging greetings in full term.
"You just came the day before yesterday to this house and so I decided to come in and welcome you people, I am your next door neighbor my name is Hajiya Balaraba" she introduced. "Oh yes! So beautiful thank you so much and nice to meet you Hajiya Balaraba, I am Hadiza", brodening the smile on her face she added "this is my daughter Amina" turning to Amina she said "yes dear get our visitor cold water". Amina rushed to the kitchen.
Hajiya Balaraba smiled " I guess she ain't your only child", she said. "Oh yes she got three siblings, two Sisters and a Brother they all were at the high school and she just came back from her school, she is in primary 4", "oh I see" said Hajiya Balaraba. "And you? Why don't you come along with any of the kids?"
"Oops they were all grown up, five Sons and a Daughter, she is the youngest and three of her Brother's were married already". "Awe so beautiful".
Back from school were Fatima and Sumayya banging into the sitting room saying their Salams while their Mother and Hajiya Balaraba answered, they both knelt down to greet their visitor and Mum Hadiza introduced them to Balaraba as her daughters.
After the greetings going back to their room Fatima felt too bad seeing how this woman was observing them and admiring their clothes. On reaching to their room she turned back to check on the woman but still caught her eyes on them smiling sardonically, that is when she divert her gaze immediately feeling embraced.
Fatima turned back to their room fuming and hissing about the act of this old woman saying "she's disgusting" a little bit louder. Summaya spun around narrowing her eyes and says " and who are you Saying this to?" "This freeking old woman of course, don't you see how she's watching us as if we were some kind of... "Will you lower your voice and stop this act Fatima don't you see she is older than you and our visitor too", said Sumayya yelling at her.
"I really don't like her" says Fatima rolling her eyes while keeping her bag on the bedside and untieing her veil, left Summaya with a jaw clenched wondering why Fatima is so disrespectful.Getting interesting from the start? Just press on the yellow star below to make me update soon.
