Meet and Greet

It's Saturday August 3rd 1941. You and the girls just finished doing a month long process of doing medical exam for a couple units of pilots wanting to join the Air Force. In order for you to pass a soldier they must pass an eye exam of 20/20 vision, get all there vaccinations, and have an over all clean bill of health. You sit next to Evelyn and Betty as all the girls are giggling and talking about tonight. You watch as the train rolls up and comes to a holt. "New York Here we come!" Says Betty with a giggle as she grabs her coat and boards the train. We all get situated in the train just as it begins to move again. "New York on a Saturday night! I can't believe it!" Betty says. All the girls are giggling and and joking around about all the guys your going to meet tonight. "Are you excited about tonight hun?"Barbra nudges you. "Yes of course. I'm afraid I won't have much time for men though. Where we're going, Betty might just have a stroke because of all the men!" You joke and smile at Betty who nods in agreement. "We're going to have so much fun tonight!" Evelyn says through the laughter. "Oh, you HAVE to tell them the story!" Barbra says scooting forward. "It's such a long story" Evelyn says looking down at her shoes. " We've got time! " Barbra shouts perhaps a little too excited. You listen as as Evelyn tells the story of meeting her handsome soldier.
You arrive at the station at around 8 O'clock. You and the girls excite the train as you take in the smell of New York City! It's dark out and the air is chilly you rub your arms when up ahead you see a group of soldiers walking towards you. Evelyn runs over and hugs one of them, you assume that's her soldier she was talking about earlier. You and the other girls huddle behind Evelyn. "Rafe I want you to meet my friends. This is Martha, Barbra, Sandra, (YN), and ..." Betty cuts her off. "Hi, I'm Betty, you don't happen to have any friends?" She says looking behind Rafe. "Take your pick" Rafe says as he points to the group of men behind him. You roll your eyes as the two groups exchange looks. You've been off the train for five minutes and Betty already managed to find a group of.. tall...handsome...men. You slowly say to yourself as you lock eyes with a particularly tall fellow. He stares right back at you it feels like you are frozen in time. Your Stare is soon interrupt by Betty's shouting. "Alright come on you ol fuddy duddy's. Let's go!" She says grabbing the hand of one of the guys with red hair. You snap out of your gaze and instantly dart your eyes away from the guy you were staring at. "That was so embarrassing I wonder how long I was staring! He looks so uncomfortable." You say to yourself as you watch the young man fidget around not trying to make eye contact with anyone, just like you.

You all arrive at the club. Everyone gets excited when you hear the loud music and chattering from the crowd of people. A group of you find a booth to settle in while the rest of the group heads to the bar. "How cool is this?" You say rather loudly to be heard over the music. " ya uh huh." Betty says half listening she's busy making googley eyes with her new red head boyfriend. You sit back just when a slow song "In the mood for love" begins to play.  "Aw let's dance baby!" Betty says pushing  her guy out of the booth on to the dance floor. At the same time Rafe reaches out his hand to ask Evelyn to dance. You smile as you watch the couples dance in there bubble of love. You lean back and sigh. All of a sudden you notice it's just you and that tall handsome fellow left in the booth. You awkwardly steal glances for a while whiteout saying a word. "I'm... I'm sorry I'm not normally this quiet. I just get nervous around  pretty girls" he says almost confidently before he realized what he said. " I didn't mean... not that your not.., I just..." he stumbles on his word for a while before he finally gives up and goes quite. You giggle as you realize he's just as nervous as nervous as you are." He quickly  perks up at the sound of your giggle and clears his throat. "My names Danny" he says with his deep voice reaching out his hand. "(YN)" You say with a smile shaking his hand.
The two of you hit it of perfectly after that. It just took a few awkward glances and some misspoken words to break the ice. You laughed more in those few hours then you have in your whole life. Talking to Danny was so easy it felt like you had known him forever. The laughter fades a bit after awhile and the two of you begin have real conversations. "So has it always been your dream to become a pilot?" You ask taking a sip of your drink. " I guess you could say that. I'v always loved to fly. Me and Rafe its always been part of our life. So I guess it's almost fate to be a pilot in the military. I'd say it fits pretty well." He says with a smile pushing his at off his forehead into his head. "It sure does" you say with a smirk while leaning in. He lean into you and at the last second you tip his hat  down into his face. You giggle at the disappointing look on his face. "If you'll excuse me, I have to use the powder room" you say as you scoot out of your seat. "yeah of course." He says awkwardly. You finish in the powder room before you walk back you check you makeup in the mirror that is hung in the hallway. " I can't believe I met someone as amazing as Danny." You say to yourself as you fix your red lip stick.
You continue day dreaming about Danny while touching up your makeup when it is suddenly interrupted by a mans voice. " Ya wanna dance tootse." Says a deep raspy voice. You turn to look at the person behind the voice. It was a tall, broad looking man with his clothes a bit tattered. He was clearly drunk. "Oh no thank you!" You say attempting to walk away. The man puts his arm on the wall to stop you from going. "What's the rush sweet heart" He says leaning down to smell your neck. " you smell like a garden of roses" He laughs as he rubs  he nose against your neck. "Get off me!" You shout and hit him right in the nose He waddled backwards before catching himself. "Oh your a feisty little one" he says wiping a drip of blood from his nose. " looks like some one needs to teach you a lesson!" He says as he jumps towards you and grabs your arms. He begins trying to unbuttoning your dress as you scream for help. You begin to cry as you can't believe this is happening. All of a sudden you hear a familiar voice. "Hey get off her you pig!" All of a sudden the drunk man is thrown to the grown by someone. It's Danny! He continues to throw punches without taking a breath. By this time almost the whole club is watching the scene. Rafe comes out of no where to tear Danny off of the man. "He's down. You got him." Rafe says trying to calm Danny down. Danny slicks his hair back and looks up and makes eye contact with you. "Danny I..." before you could finish Danny cuts you off. "Are you okay?" He says between breaths. You nod your head. "Let's get out of here." He says grabbing your hand and walking you out of the club. " You both walk down the sidewalk silently. Just the sound of your footsteps . "Look I know, you probably could have taken care of yourself back there, but I don't think you should have to. It makes me sick the thought of that man... I just couldn't..." he rambles on trying to say what he's thinking. You were so thankful to have him there. And you wanted him to know it. You turn to face him and kiss the side of his warm cheek softly. "Thank you." You whisper in his ear. He immediately stops talking the second you kiss him. He turns to face you with a big grin on his his face. "Your welcome" He says with his deep voice. "We should probably get  you to your hotel." He says wrapping his arm around you.
You get to the hotel and stop at the front door. "I had a really great time with you tonight" you say dragging your foot on the ground. "Me too" he says a bit shy. You stand in silence for just a moment looking into each other's eyes. Danny leans in to whisper in your ear. "Can I kiss you?" He asks. With a smile you nod your head. He puts his hands on your waist and pulls you in close, slowly turning his head his soft lips meet yours. FIREWORKS Is the only way you can explain it. You wish you could stay here forever with him. He slowly pulls away and looks in your eyes. "I'll see you around (YN)" he says softly before kissing your forehead"  He slowly walks backwards waving goodbye. Before turning and leaving.
