When the school reopened and Kengkla was in Matthayeom 5 he was invited to Technic's home. He had been invited over for the summer too but he had been out of the country so he had had to decline the invitation. Technic's family was not poor although it was nowhere up to the mark. He had left his shoes by the door and had entered with a hand full of boxes of confectionaries and given to his classmate's mother, smiling politely. She had refused at first but reluctantly accepted like he had known she would. It was just a matter of persuasion. They had head straight to Technic's room and had played seven hours straight on the latest PS the latter owned. His mother brought in the lunch somewhere close to four in the evening when she realised they had no intentions of coming outside for a break. They kept playing nonstop till only a few hours were left on the clock to strike midnight and for Monday to start. At 9 PM, Techno suddenly burst into the room to Kengkla's surprise and dragged them out of Technic's bedroom. A few minutes later, they found themselves sitting at the dining table sitting across each other. Techno sits next to his brother while their mother sat next to Kengkla. Both mother and older son force fed him while Technic in embarrassment kept trying to stop them. Kengkla liked attention so he didn't mind it.

Kengkla had eaten so much that by the time he had reached home he had been sick, puking on the floor of his room. He missed the first day of school.

In October, Kengkla missed several classes, first for the drama act in their Cultural Showcase and later, because he had to fly out to Japan with his parents for some annual family meet he gave no flying fucks about. He returned two nights before his first assessment. So, he naturally called Technic, informing him to come to meet him and pass the notes on. Technic being Technic did not turn up. He, instead, sent his brother.

There was torrential rain that night. Kengkla had almost felt bad for his classmate and had thought of treating him. Too bad for his classmate, he sent his brother instead.

Kengkla was sitting inside waiting for his classmate when his phone buzzed.

Come outside.

He got up from his seat and went out and stared outside in confusion. There was no one. He called Technic back.

"Where are you?"

"Hey- P'No is going to give you the notes."

"Where is he then?" Kengkla looked around. "There's no one outside."

"Eh? He just called to say he was waiting outside the cafe. Wait, I'll- he's freaking stu-" The call was put on hold. Kengkla climbed a few steps down. Nope. No Techno. "Ai'Kengkla," the call was reconnected, "he took a wrong turn somewhere. He'll be there in two minutes. Wait for him." The line disconnected. Kengkla put the phone back into his pocket and went down the rest of the steps. He stood two whole minutes but there was no one in sight; just a few passers-by. Kengkla hummed, as minutes ticked by and tried to think which possible turn could the older boy have taken. Had the assessment not been that important, he would have left for home already. Fifteen minutes later, a bike stopped near the cafe. The biker hopped off the two-wheeler and Kengkla looked away, disinterested. He was spiriting away as soon as he got the damned papers. From the corner of his eyes, he noticed the biker take his helmet off and hang it on the handgrip. Said person shook his head and Kengkla finally turned his head to look at him. Techno pushed his wet hair back from his face. He noticed Kengkla at the same moment and grinned at him.
