Ula's POV

I stared out into the darkness which was my room, trying to clam down. I could feel her clawing the inside of me, slowly digging her way to the outside. I couldn't let her though. Who knows what she would do. I wish she'd leave me alone. I wish she wasn't apart of me.

I gasped when pain shot into my head. She was screaming for me to let her out. I tried covering my ears but she wouldn’t shut up. I only new one thing that could make her.

I quickly stood up and hurried out of my room. She started screaming louder, making me almost fall. I leaned on the wall until I regained my balance then I continued running down the hallway toward the basement door. When I got there I tried to open it but it was locked. I yelled in frustration and kicked the door. I tried banging on it, hoping it would magically open. It was no use. The door was made so a vampire couldn't break through it and I was just a mermaid.

Giving up, I let my body fall against the door and slide to the floor. I brought me knees to my chest and cried into them. I could still hear her but she wasn't yelling anymore. She sounded disgusted and she keep telling me how pathetic I am.

I tried to ignore her but I couldn't help feeling that she was right. I forced myself to calm down. Eventually my sobs turned into hiccups and I fell asleep.

"Ula," Someone said shaking me, "Ulaaaa." I cracked my eyes open and was greeted by two worried blue eyes. "Go away, Alecia," I mumbled trying to sound annoyed but I keep the smile off my face at seeing my best friend.

"Did you sleep here?" she asked. I looked around and saw that I was laying on the floor in front of the basement door and last night came floating back to me. I rubbed my head. I had a huge headache from the siren's screaming. "I guess so," I said.

Alecia stood up and offered me a hand. I took it gladly. "What happened?" She asked while rubbing my head. I looked at her shyly. I knew she wouldn't like it. "I couldn't take it," I whined. She let her hand drop to her side as she looked at the door. No doubt putting the pieces together. She shook her head and walked away.

I followed her up the hallway and into the kitchen where her sister Lucy and their dad were. She sat down at one of the stools at the counter and I sat beside her. "I'm sorry but she was trying her hardest to get out and I couldn't let that happen. Remember last time? She almost killed that witch, Darcy." I said.

She didn't reply, instead she watched her dad put the food he was cooking onto plates. "Al," I whined.  Still no answer. "Lucy," I said and she looked up at me, "Why was the basement locked?" She opened her mouth to reply but was interrupted by her dad. "Because Alecia and I don't think it's good for you. All you're doing is making her stronger." He said while placing a plate in front of me. I sighed. I knew I wasn't gonna win this one.

I ate my food as fast as I could and put my plate in the sink. I turned to look at them and I told them I was going to the beach. "Wait for me," Alecia said then placed her plate in the sink too. Then we both walked out of the house and to the pier.

It was kind of getting awkward with all the silence. "So.." I started but Alecia held up a hand for me to stop. "Don't start," she said, "You don't need the blood. You want it. You lie to yourself and say it's the only way but it's not. You were find last night without it. You should have came to me and I could have helped you. You have other choices." I deiced to stay quiet because there was no arguing with her. Even if she was wrong.

We had reached the end of the pier. "Ula, I'm sorry for…"  I didn’t get to hear what she was going to say and I didn't want to. That why I jumped in to the water. I quickly striped off my clothes and threw them back onto the pier before swimming away.

I heard Alecia yell after me but I ignored her, focusing on my legs.  I felt them tingle and when I looked at them they were growing together and turning the same shade of green as my eyes. I moved my new formed tail up and down as I swam to my favorite rock. When I got there, I used my arms to pull me onto it.

I looked back at the pier and saw Alecia swimming after me, turquoise tail splashing.
