Ula's POV
I laid my head back onto the car window and listened as the rain fell against the glass, sounding like the tapping of a dozen anxious fingers. Sighing, I close my eyes and focused on the sound. The rain always relaxes me. Maybe it's because of my connection to water or maybe it's just the sound and smell that gives it a calming quality.
It started raining shortly after Alecia suggested that we should go see Derek. We quickly went it side and dried off before we got ready to go. I was wearing sweatpants and put my hair in a bun. I've know Derek almost my whole life. I don't see need to dress up just for him. And honestly he gets on my nerves. All witches do. Alecia didn't dress fancy either, but she did make more of an effort than I did.
We've been driving for hours now because Derek lives several towns over. He moved a couple years back after his brother died in a surfing accident. He said there was to many memories and if he wanted to get past the pain he had to leave. He also said that he would visit often. That was bull, he only visited once.
He called last month but Alecia was the only one home. He told her that he has been super busy working on new spells and potions. That's probably why she thinks he can help me now. I highly doubt that he'll be able to do anything to help me. I mean what's he gonna do? Wave around a wand while speaking gibberish, hoping that it will make my siren disappear. She'll more likely die of laughter.
I'm only going to make Alecia happy. She believes that the siren can be blocked out or 'removed'. She doesn't understand that it's part of me and the only it'll leave me alone is to give it wants. I've tried to ignore it before but it's screams got so loud that I blacked out. Apparently I drunk all of Lucy's blood stash from the basement refrigerator then I walked to our neighbor's house and almost drowned Darcy after I took a bite out of her.
In my defense, Darcy deserved it. Earlier that day she put a spell on a human boy named Austin. He hopped around and croaked like a frog for the whole first period. I won't admit that I laughed a little. It was cruel and someone, not me, may or may not think that he's kinda sorta cute.
I felt the car stop moving and opened my eyes, hoping that we were there. We weren’t. Alecia had stopped at a stop sign. She was being weirdly quiet. She only occasionally talked when she asked how I was feeling. Alecia very protective in nature. She'll do almost anything to keep her friends and family safe.
When a vampire attacked and turned her little sister, I had to lock her in her room so she couldn't go after him and get herself killed. But she sneaked out through her window when I went to pee. It took me an hour to find her and I had to call back up to get her back home. Even then she didn't stop. She went full out wolf on me. All I got were a couple of scratches. She wouldn't hurt me. Ever.
"Wake up sleepy head. We're here." Alecia said before getting out and slamming the car door. I must've fallen asleep. I haven't had a good nights sleep since the siren gained a voice after my fifteenth birthday. Before that all I had was the feeling to drown people when they annoyed me. Now there is actually someone telling me to do it.
When I stepped out of the car the first thing I saw was trees. Lots and lots of trees. The second was the dirt path that lead to log cabin. The path was surrounded by red and white flowers and little buzzing insects that were flying around. There was a small porch attached to the cabin with a swing that looked like it might fall apart if anyone tried to sit in it. The third thing I noticed was the muddy puddle I just stepped in. Stupid light witches and their need to 'be' with nature.
I hissed and took off my shoe and threw it at the cabin door. I didn't really think that through because I stepped right back into the puddle again. I groaned then looked over at Alecia who was currently laughing her but off. She was laughing so hard that she fell over right into another puddle, head first. Now it was my turn to laugh.
She stood up and sent me an amused look. Then she looked down and frowned. She was wearing a white shirt and a very bright neon green bra. I started laughing again. But this time she gave her 'if you don't shut up now you'll be sorry' look. So, I closed my mouth real fast but there was still a smile plastered on my face. But the smile fell away and was replaced by a cringe when I heard what sounded like a cat that was dying after it gave birth to thirty squawking seagulls.
"Ow!" I glanced over to the cabin door just in time to see a tall, brown headed boy trip and almost fall over the shoe I had throw. He was wearing a thin looking tunic with a pair of loose jeans and no shoes. "Why is there a shoe on my porch? And -- Woe! What happened to you two?"
"Uh…There was a suspicious looking bug on the door so I threw my shoe at it then it attacked Alecia making her fall into a puddle." I said while fiddling with my fingers, trying to look as natural as possible. "Oh! You should probably fix that door before it busts someone's eardrums." I added while smiling up at him. He smiled slightly and nodded before turning to Alecia and letting a grin spread across his face.
"Ally!" He yelled before he made his way over to where she was standing. He was practically running but somehow managed to avoid every dirty, little puddle. This is why I hate witches.
"Derek!" She yelled back as a reply. Then Alecia ran to him, killing the distance between them, and raised her arms to hug. I got way too happy, think that he was gonna get dirty, but she put her arms back down and looked at her shirt, frowning. He laughed before pulling her into his arms anyway. The worst part was when they broke apart and his white shirt was still clean. I groaned at them before walking to the porch and putting my shoe back on, which felt really weird because my foot was still wet.
"What's wrong with her?" I heard Derek whisper to "Ally". Why did he call her that? Everybody called her Alecia expect sometimes me when I call her Al. That's one of the reasons Alecia used to think he liked her. He was always flirting and calling he Ally. Then after she developed a crush and admitted it to him he told her he was sorry but they were only friends. She cried for two days, non-stop. I really don't see why see still likes him.
I choose to ignore his comment about my mood and invited myself into his house. It wasn't what you'd think a witch's house would look like. Everything was white except the walls and floor which were wood. In the middle of the room there was two sofas that sat facing each other with a coffee table in between. That's all that was in the room. No windows either. I guess that's why I ended up tripping.
I hit my head on the way down. The last thing I saw was Derek's cat. It was white too.
