the bell had dinged when i walked into the familiar diner. there was no one there except you, who i hadn't seen before. i assumed you were a new employee.
when i sat down at the bar, you sent me this beautiful smile and asked me to wait one second. what you, nor i, knew was that i'd wait an eternity for you.
i had ordered green tea since that was the only thing i'd ever drink. you wondered if i wanted to order anything else, but i rejected.
the only thing heard throughout the entire diner was the teapot boiling. i never liked the quiet ever after that.
you soon came back out with the steaming tea in your hands, seething as your hands were burning. after you put the cup down, i grabbed your hand.
my eyes met your dark chocolate brown ones. i saw a blush spread across your face out of the corner of my eye as i examined your hands.
slowly letting go, i dropped our eye contact and stared into my tea. your eyes were truly mesmerizing and i know i won't— i can't forget them.
you dropped the bill off, your face still a bright red; a color i didn't know was my favorite.
i was quick to finish my tea and pay. when you came back with my paid bill, you had regained your posture and you sent a charming smile my way.
bowing, i shoved the receipt into my wallet. i speed walked out of the diner with the bell indicating my departure.
what i didn't know was that receipt held the beginning of a story i'd regret.
