John must have fallen asleep because when he opened his eyes and the sun was sinking beneath the horizon.

He heard a knock at the door.

John ignored it and closed his eyes again. He didn't really care who was knocking. It was most likely a servant that came to ask him to come eat dinner. He wasn't in the mood to deal with his father.

Someone was now banging on the door. It was like they were hitting a boxing bag instead of someone's face.

John sighed and got up. He yawned and yanked his hair so he would fully wake up. The excruciating pain did its job and woke him up.

The banging got louder.

John walked over to the door and opened it. He expected to see an angry servant but instead was met with Francis Kinloch.

He didn't look angry at all. In fact he was smiling and holding something behind his back. John stepped out of his bedroom.

“Oh hello, Sir Kinloch. It's a pleasure to see you again.” John said this while tucking some of his loose hairs behind his ear. He had to look presentable in front of such a high class citizen.

John usually didn't care about the social status of humans but Francis was a knight. A knight who saves him regularly. Without Francis he would most likely be dead. He owed him some graduated. Also it's good to be on the person who can choose if you live or die’s good side.

“No need to be so formal, John. Call me Francis.” Francis smiled brightly. It was so bright it could have been taken as a fake smile.

“Okay, Francis.” John smiled at Francis’ as he opened the door to John's bedroom and held it for him like a true gentlemen.

Francis shut the door behind him and locked it without John noticing.

John turned around to face the knight.

The knight held out a single rose.

“A beautiful flower for a beautiful prince.”

John felt his face heat up as he looked at the rose. He smiled and took the flower from Francis.

“Thank you, S- Francis, for the gift. It's very thoughtful of you.”

Francis chuckled. “I know.”

John bit his lip. He hoped Francis was joking which he probably was.

“Well I have to get going. You know I have to go do my knight duties.”

“Of course. I guess I'll see you soon.”

John smiled at Francis and he smiled back. Once Francis shut the door behind him John sighed happily. He put the rose over his heart and sunk down the wall onto his knees.

John could hear his heart's steady beat. His freckled cheeks where dusted pink. He squealed and kicked his legs.

He got up and jumped onto his bed. He bounced a little and laid on his back staring at the ceiling. The rose was in his right hand. He squealed and kicked his legs again. He was like a schoolgirl finding out her crush likes her back.

John giggled and sat up. He looked into the mirror. He saw a lovestruck boy. He shook his head smiling and got up. He placed the rose on the dresser.
