Y/N POV:
An elder who I didn't know grabbed my forearm. "Arm yourself" he yelled at me, his voice hardly audible over the sound of grating metal as the barricades went up " they are coming". " I don't understand" I yelled back " who's coming? What's going on?". But he had already left.
I ran to the armourment, searching for some kind of weapon I could use. My eyes fell upon a pearly white sword that had been flung aside in the mad rush of people trying to find a dagger, shield or sword they could use to defend themselves against... well whatever was coming. I knew that sword. My trainer had pointed out to me as we were going through the weapons section of my training.
"Y/N" he had said " that sword is immensely powerful. It one of the only weapons capable of killing a light angel" he shook his head " not that anyone would ever need to of course".I blinked myself back to reality and picked up the sword. Obviously whatever was coming wasn't from inside the walls of the kingdom or someone would have already taken it. But my mother had told me when I was younger, that beyond the light kingdom was nothing. Simply eternal darkness. Well, obviously she was wrong or everyone would not be freaking out right now.
Sword in hand, I ran down from the armourment to the courtyard. I saw my trainer across the area and yelled: "WHAT'S GOING ON?!". Pryce ( my trainer) walked over to me and placed his hand on my arm. " You know how I told you that one day there would a battle in which you must use the skills I have taught you?" I nodded "well this is it. The big one. You aren't afraid are you?" He asked softly. I shook my head but my insides were churning at the thought of the impending battle.
" But what's coming?" I asked " I thought there was nothing other than the light kingdom" " about that..." Pryce says guilty rubbing the back on his neck. I raise my eyebrows at him. "It's sort of what we tell children to avert panic". " what do you mean?" I ask. " there is a sort of flip side to the light kingdom" he explains "like a reflection. It's called the dark kingdom. Home of the dark angels". I was confused as to how I had heard nothing about this before. "rumour is that the dark angels are also reflections of us and we are reflections of them. You know that scar you have on your hand?" He asks. " yes?" I reply, turning my hand over to look at the light scar that ran from my wrist to the bottom of my index finger. "You weren't born with that. The dark reflection of yourself must have cut her hand and because everything they do is mirrored onto us you too got a scar" he explained. "Everything we do, however, we train they train as well. If they are really coming this will be the hardest battle we have to face. Both light and dark angels will be equally matched." He says with a grim look on his face. "So how..."
But our conversation was cut short by a yell from behind us. THEY'RE GETTING THROUGH THE BARRIERS" someone yelled. "Pryce, "I say turning to him "what are we going to do?"It's time to finally put all that training to use Y/N" and with that, the dark angels finally pushed through the gates. Pryce charged forward and I soon lost him in the crowd of warriors, elders and townsfolk alike. I gripped my sword tightly. The dark angels were terrifyingly beautiful. As the battle waged on I saw glimpses of my friends and family, except instead of white wings they had black and their faces were different in a way I couldn't explain.everything was darker, covered in shadows.
And their eyes. Their eyes were maybe the worst thing of all. Instead of our light blue eyes, they had black, hollowed sockets. They looked like their entire face had been burnt. As I fought I soon discovered that this was incredibly different from my training. There I would verse my friends who would stop If asked them too. I got the feeling If I asked a dark angel to stop it they would decapitate me. The fight continued into the night, but no one was falling, each side was perfectly balanced. The dark angels seemed to realise this too and soon changed tactic. The small wooden stalls were set on fire. Explosions slammed people into walls.
I watched in horror as they fought. Neither side would stop until the other was dead. But as soon as one of them died their reflection would die also. This wasn't a war for land or victory but a war for the complete annihilation of every angel. I was suddenly pinned to the ground. I struggled and managed to turn my head to see my attacker. I found myself staring into my own blacked eyes. "Who the hell are you?" I ask. "Don't you see" she whispered in the voice I recognised as my own. " I'm you, you are me. And now, I'm going to kill you" she drawled raising her sword." You... you cant" I stutter " if I die then you die too" " that's the whole point," she said rolling her eyes. " but why? Why would you do this? All angels would be extinct by the end of this! Why would you want that?" " Because we shouldn't have existed in the first place " she spits " It's impossible. A reflection of a reflection? Someone or something created us for one purpose, to end each other. Didn't your elders tell you? It's in our blood, that we share, the need to come to an end. And this is it." She grinned down at me.
" Ok look, it's great listening to you explain the universe and everything but I'm afraid the sight of my own face is becoming to creep me out a little, so if you don't mind..." I say distracting her as I raise my hand and hit her in the side of her back. My weak spot. She curses as I roll out from underneath her. " I think I'll be going" I run back towards the battle, pretty pleased with my self. " damn, " I thought " that was badass". Something interrupts my thoughts though.
Pryce is lying on the ground, clutching a wound in his abdomen. " What!" I yell kneeling next to him " No no NO PRYCE" I whisper-yell to him, barely stopping my voice from breaking " cmon" " Y/N ...." he groans weakly. " yes Pryce?" I whisper, years running down my cheeks. " do... do you remember that mirror you got on your birthday?" He clutched at my hand, his blood was pooling around my knees. " yes" I barely muster the words. " I need you to get it ..... And smash it" " what?" I was slightly taken aback by that. " smash it?" " yes " he said chuckling lightly at my bewildered expression. " when you do that, for about 5 seconds, a gateway will open, it looks like a pool of water..." he began to cough " J...jump in " " wait hang on a minute Pryce" I say somehow managing to smile through the tears " You want me to smash my mirror then jump into a secret gateway to god knows where?" I shook my head " somehow that's not the weirdest thing I've heard today".
Pryce laughed then began to cough up blood. " You... your sw...sword" " That doesn't matter now Pryce" my tears splash on the cold ground. "You're.... right. Y/N..?" He whispered reaching for my hand. The war raging around us had blurred into background noise. If I shut my eyes could barely tell it was going on. All that mattered was my trainer, my best friend, who had helped me through everything, who had taught me everything I know, was dying. And there was nothing I could do. " Y/N it's down to you now". Pryce looked into my eyes and I could almost hear his heart stop beating. " No no no... please... Pryce please..." I begged. But he was gone. Dead. Sobs racked my body as I lay his hand on the ground. I stood up and took one last look back and my friend. Then I ran. I knew where I was going even though I couldn't see through the tears. I knew what I had to do.
I ran to my room and picked the small hand mirror off the dresser. I paused for a moment and thought of my dark self. She was just as lost as I am, caught up in something bigger than we know, bigger than we could imagine. I blinked rapidly and threw the mirror on the ground. As the glass shattered and spread across the floor, what looked like an oil slick flowed across the concrete. I held my breath and stepped forwards.
The first thing that hit me was the contrast of whatever world I had entered. There was light and dark. Shadows and highlights. I was suddenly overcome with a feeling of mixed sadness and dizziness. A loud horn blared as I staggered forward down the stretch of concrete. Skyscrapers stretched around me. The lights blurred and hazy in my eyes. A red figure was running towards me. The colour was confusing. In the kingdom, you hardly ever saw any colours other than white and grey. " Hey, HEY!" He yelled reaching towards me.
" where did you come... wait... you have wings?" He reached up and pulled off the mask covering his face. His thick brown curls fell over his gorgeous eyes. He wore an expression of confusion mixed with awe. " we need to get off the road...oh god..." The last thing I felt was his arms wrapping around me, as I blacked out.In the kingdom of the light angels, a girl fell down, surrounded by fire, light, dark and death.
