"Ava! please, come down here!" My dad yelled from down stairs. I was currently laying in my bed thinking about what I'm going to do with my life. I already graduated from high school. Which for me was easy to get threw. Not trying to brag or anything. I sat up from my bed and grabbed my phone. I walked slowly to the stairs and ran down them. I ran to the kitchen and slid in the room with my socks.
"Ava is here." I yelled throwing up my hands.
"Yes, I can see that. Well I have a surprise for you, and you have to promise me you won't die from excitement." He tells me which makes me roll my eyes. I've never told him that his surprises suck. But I couldn't tell my dad that, it would break my heart if I told him that. Yes I am a daddy's girl, judge all you want.
"Promise." I said in a dull tone. He smiled.
"See your trying to hide your excitement!" He chuckled and shook his head a little. He went over to a drawer next to the fridge and pulled out a box wrapped in red and blue paper. It looked about the size of a book. He walked back over to where I was and handed me the box type thing. There was a small stick on bow on the corner. I ripped one of the corners open and saw that it was navy blue. I took off all of the paper and saw that it was a book. But the back side of it. I flipped it over. Oh my goshes! No way! The cover read 'HOW TO BRING THE DEAD TO LIFE'. Do you know what this means? This means he gonna let me try! Oh my goshes!
"No way!" I almost screamed.
"You promised me." He laughed.
"Well I didn't expect it to be this!" I held the book close to me and started to jump up and down.
"You have to study before we can actually try though. You know that." He told me. I stopped jumping for a second and nodded.
"Wait I thought Jackson had this?" I asked him. Jackson is my older brother.
"He got has a different one. I'm giving you mine because I know that you'll actually be in the family business. He's like mom, he can't handle it." He told me in a sad voice. He looked deep in thought for a second, which honestly scared me. But he soon lost that look and regained his happiness.
"When can I try?" I ask him.
"Well first you have to study. Obviously. When you have read the whole book and studied off of it, tell me. I have a text for you to take. If you pass it you can try. I have a lot to teach you." He crossed his arms and looked at me.
"I gotta try. Where do the bodies come from? And do I get to chose if it's a boy or girl I get to wake up?" I ask, already knowing the answer.
"Can't tell you till your 22. You know that. But you are not waking them up. I don't know why your calling it that. You are giving them a new life. They are re-born, basically. But I will pick out if it's a boy or a girl." With that he walked past me and went into the TV room. I knew all those answers because I've asked them plenty of times before. I ran upstairs with the book in hand. Once in my room I threw off everything off of my study desk and slammed the book down. Oh my word! I'm so excited, this is amazing! I wonder if I'll get I boy. I hope it's a boy. Dad better pick a cute boy if he picks a boy. He hasn't really told me anything besides what he just told me. I've never watched him bring one to life. He's never let me. He's never let me seen any of the people either. He said I was too young. But that was like 5 years ago. I haven't tried ever since then. Never bothered to.
It takes me only 3 hours of non-stop reading for me to finish a 523 page book. I feel like I'm gonna die from all the information that is lodged into my brain. Now I just need to study off of it. My dad used this same book when he had to study before he could try. He highlighted the parts where he thought he needed to study most. I mentally thanked him for that. Once again I dove into the book without another word.
And I'm done! I have fully studied and read the book multiple times. I've studied where to hook up the wires on the body. What voltage to set them at. All that fun stuff. I'm ready! Oh I need to tell dad! I run down the stairs and into the living room.
"I'm ready!" I yell. It startles him and makes him jump. I laugh a little.
"There's no possible way that you could've finished that book and studied it in what-" he checks his watch. "5 hours." He stands up and looks at me.
"3 hours to read it and 2 hours to study it." I smile proudly.
"Well I don't even have a test ready for you. I was expecting you to be done next week. Not today!" He puts his hands on his head. "Go bring me your book. I'll test you off the book."
I run upstairs and grab the navy blue book and run back. I hand him it and he starts to flip through the pages.
"First question, how do you prep the body before shocking it?"
"Easy, put the wires and either side of its head, 2 on the chest and an extra one near the heart."
"Correct."
This went on for about an hour or two. Let's just say I get to wake up a dead person! I only got one wrong and that one was about when it wakes up. It didn't have much about that topic in the book so I can understand why I got it wrong. I haven't herd anything about that yet so I barely know anything on that topic. That's more of a thing you figure out yourself. That's one of our family rules. We have to find out ourselves how to deal with a person you just woke up. And now I have to learn myself.
"So can we do it today?" I ask.
"Well your lucky I already have the body. In a couple of hours we will, okay?"
"Yes!" I fist pump the air and dance all around.
