This was going to be my new project a boy. A very cute one might I add. But that's besides the point. I get to give him another chance at life. Become a human again; find love, happiness, joy. I get to help with that. In a weird way that kinda makes me happy. But wait, doesn't that seem to make me his mother? Like second mother I mean? Oh my.
"Wait so dad. . .?" I said out loud, in question.
"Yes?"
"This technically makes me his second mother, correct?" I say in a nervous tone. After I ask this, he sits there for a second in thought.
"Well, yes. In a way. I mean, you are giving him a life and letting him live. So yea, I suppose." He grabs his black apron from a hook while saying this.
"So then, you'd be a grandfather." This comment made him stop his actions, which made me laugh.
"Now, I'm not that old. I'm only 41." He says to me with a pointed finger. I laugh and go grab a spare apron off the same hook my dad grabbed his. Except mine was white with weird yellow stains all over. My dad and I finish tying the apron and walk to the boy.
I watch as my dad grabs a large machine on wheels and wheels it over to the body. It's kind of weird looking, in my opinion. It's about six feet tall and at the very top of it there is a large metal ball with two rings crisscrossing around it. In the middle of the machine there is a touch screen device that is used to change the amount of electricity. My dad likes to call this the "life changer". I'd like to think it's because you can like give them a new beginning and it changes your life or something? I honestly don't know why. Just a name he came up with I guess.
"Why don't you put the leads where they are supposed to go? A test doesn't show how much you actually know until you've done it in real life." He told me. He handed me the leads. These were basically the things hospitals usually use for monitoring your heart rate. We do use them to monitor once we revive them, but we also use them as shocks. They are pretty effective if you use them correctly. We have two different sets. One for shocking and one for heart rate monitoring. We usually watch them for a day or two once they are breathing again.
My dad hands me the leads and I place them where they need to be. One on each side of the temples, one on each side of the rib cage (right one higher, left one lower) and an extra one right above the heart.
"Okay, what voltage do we need to use? Oh and did you sanitize the leads before placing them?"
"I'll redo them. But around 110 to 250 volts." I explained. I took off all the leads and cleaned the skin.
"Don't forget the gel!" My dad pointed with a finger to the leads. I put the clear gel onto the body and then replaced the leads. I knew when he had the turned on the 'life changer' because I had herd a low static.
"Okay, now step away from the body. I doubt you want to be electrified." I took a few steps back. "I've set it to 110 volts and the max amount of times we can shock the heart is. . .?"
"3 to 4 in a row or else the nervous system and heart can be damaged." I state. He sets up the voltage and he turns to me.
"I'll let you do the honors." He steps back from the machine and presents the screen to me. I really can't believe I get to do this. I mean, I'm 19 and I get to be apart of this family practice. Giving people their lives back. Well I mean, life but not their old lives back. There are times when we are actually able to give them their old lives back. You see, the truings (the people who give us the bodies), give us bodies that will remember their past lives. It's not naturally occurring, they have to do something to their brains. They only do that when loved ones want that person back. The only reason I know about this is because I was with my dad when a girl remembered. So he had to explain it all to me.
