Never in her life had Amara ever slept so bad, not even when she was younger and had scary nightmares. No, this was different. She had been lying awake all night, thinking about how she could talk to Kanisha, but no other way than just talking to her alone, face-to-face, came up.

Being one of the only ones awake right now, didn't help her much either. She was sitting on one of the couches in the Common Room, reading a Herbology book that she had gotten from the library with Kanisha. Oh, why did she have to become friends with daughter of two high-ranking Death Eaters?

She had been so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't notice someone sitting next to her. Turning her head, she saw Lucas.

"Hey, you're up early," Lucas stated, "Did something happen?"

Amara was just about to tell him 'no' when she thought about how her best friend deserved to know he was friends with the daughter of Death Eaters.

"I found this book about all memorable deaths and I might've searched for Kanisha's parents." Amara didn't dare look Lucas right in the face, so instead she focused on her hands.

"And?"

"I may have found out that her parents were Death Eaters," she whispered, but Lucas heard her clear enough.

"Wow." Amara had imagined a lot of reactions from Lucas, but this one she didn't expect. How could he not freak out? "That's just—Did you talk to her?"

"No, but how can I?" Amara was slowly beginning to freak out, she just didn't know what to do. "I can't just say 'Hey, I just found out your parents were Death Eaters'."

"Well, it's a start," Lucas said, taking her hand in his own. "Look you two have known each other for barely a week, but you're already really close. So, I'm sure you'll be able to work it out."

"Yeah, maybe." Amara tried to focus on her book again and barely noticed Lucas leaving her to play Wizarding Chess with another student, who was already awake.

The book went on and on about plants and she began wondering why something about the Blood of the Young would be written in a Herbology book. Just when she was about to close the book, she noticed Kanisha entering the room, which made her focus on the book again, not wanting to talk to her.

"Hey," Kanisha said as she sat next to Amara. "Hey, Amara?"

"Huh?" She looked up and she knew Kanisha must've realised she was doing weird. "What?"

"You're hair is yellow, which I think resembles anxiety?"

Amara didn't even bother to look at it as she easily believed her because she had never felt so anxious. "Oh, yeah. Do you mind if we talk somewhere alone?"

"We can talk in our dorm, Vivian and Sofia are already here in the Common Room." The two girls made their way towards their dorm and when they reached it, Amara took a seat on her bed.

"So," Kanisha said as she watched Amara with a confused look, "what did you want to talk about?"

"I went to the restricted section last night..."

"You did what?" Kanisha said and even without look at her, Amara could hear the shock in her voice. "We agreed you wouldn't do that."

"It didn't wear me out, no one was there. We needed information." After saying it, Amara realised that she actually didn't even get the information as she had completely forgotten to look for it.

"Well, did you get it?"

Amara had known it was coming, but it didn't feel less humiliating to tell her she didn't. "Not about the Blood, but I did about something else."

"About what?" Kanisha had crossed her arms somewhere in the conversation, showing Amara that she was clearly mad.

"Why didn't you tell me your parents were Death Eaters?"

The question seemed to have surprised Kanisha a lot as the girl stumbled a bit back and avoided Amara's gaze.

"I mean, I trusted you, I thought I knew you, but your parents were dark wizards. Maybe you are too." Amara was slowly beginning to become angry, but so was Kanisha. "Merlin, I don't even know if everything you have told is the truth. Maybe you even know what the Blood of the Young is because of your parents, because you are their—"

"I am nothing like my parents!" Kanisha yelled, cutting the other girl off. "I am nothing like them, I barely even knew them."

"How am I supposed to know?" Amara began yelling back at her, the tension becoming worse and worse between them until it snapped.

"Just leave me alone, Amara," Kanisha told her, "I left Hogwarts so that this wouldn't follow me everywhere I went."

"Kanisha," Amara began, but Kanisha stopped her.

"I'll find out about the Blood myself," Kanisha said and walked towards the door, but just before she left she told Amara, "Goodbye, Amara."

"Kanisha, please." But it was already too late, Kanisha had left the room and their friendship, which was broken.

Only after a couple of seconds did Amara realise what she had done. In the heat of the moment, she had destroyed their friendship, which had meant so much for her. It didn't take long before the tears came and she weeped for her lost dreams.

She barely noticed that Lucas had came into the room, most likely having heard of the argument between the two. He took her in his arms and just let her cry it all out, not caring how wet his shirt would get because this was the girl he had known since he had been five, his best friend who had just lost a very close friend.

Weeks passed and the two girls still wouldn't speak to each other, they sat as far away from each other in class, they didn't look at the other, they didn't even to speak to each other about their investigations, only leaving notes in the book they had read. The only connection between the two was Lucas, nothing else.
