A tail swings down from the ceiling; or is it a head?; and rips out my comrade's throats one by one. When it goes for me, I snatch it and yank down whatever is attached to it.

A boy, not any more than two years younger than me, flops onto the floor and just lays there in shock for a moment. His mask has fallen off his face, revealing empty, black eye-sockets that still leak clear tears.

He stares at me for a long moment, then something whistles through the air behind me and slams into my hip. It burns, like a knife. I see the tip of his stinger jutting out of my leg, glance back at him, with his claws and the talons on his feet, and I knock him out.

A bruise forms on his pale skin, my knuckles almost leaving a mark. I pull his now limp tail away from my leg, removing the stinger carefully. I don't think he poisoned me, and I honestly don't think he knows how to use his poison.

Then again, he knows how to stab me with his stinger.....better safe than sorry. I take out a bottle of water from my belt and some of the pale green pills specially developed to combat their venoms.

I don't feel any different, so he must not have poisoned me very effectively.

I lift him from the floor, carrying him outside. I'm about halfway to the transport vehicle when something twitches in my brain. I don't know how else to describe it. It was like someone took over my nerves for even just a split second, because I felt his fear and his pain.

I could tell just how scared he was of me.

Could I have been wrong? Could I have misjudged him?

"Soldier Reyes. What are you doing with that type three?"

So Commander Erik doesn't know that he is different from the others. I guess he hasn't seen the weeping holes where the boy's eyes should be.

"Sorry Commander, I wanna take this one home and hurt it more. Heh. Idiot monsters like him deserve to die."

He gives me an odd look. It's a well-known fact among my squadmates that I am one of the most violent and unpredictable of the group. Luckily, I teamed up with other squads today so only one person I knew died, and he died when we captured a type three girl, before we found the boy.

I realize pretty fast that the boy's house is about two blocks south of mine, and he wakes up when we're halfway there. I set him down, letting him get used to being awake again. Before he fully returns to conscience, I cuff his clawed hands behind him and snap a special-made collar around his neck.

We must take proper precautionary measures, after all. If someone saw him and I walking together, him unchained and free to harm others, it would mean hell for Commander Erik.

Thus, I must chain him up until I get him to my house. I rationalize it in my brain, but when I see his broken-hearted expression and feel that same twinge of fear from him, I unclip the handcuffs.

I leave the collar on him, I'm not gonna let him be completely free, not yet.

By now, we're about two houses down from my place. I whisper to him, lowering my voice so that to passerby it looks like I'm calling him worthless and generally reminding him of his place.
