"I'm sorry, you want me to what?" I raise my eyebrows in disbelief, folding my arms across my chest.

"I want you to join the Avengers" Fury repeats firmly, his eyes locking onto mine.

"Why? The Avengers are already strong without her. What does she bring to the table?" Steve asks, eyes darting between Fury and I.
I unfold my arms and screw my face up in confusion. Didn't this guy just say he trusted me?!

"Sass? Spice? A whole load of enemies?" Tony responds and I scoff, rolling my eyes. Like they don't have loads already.

"Well as far as I'm concerned, she brings us nothing that Tasha doesn't" Clint adds.

"Hey, don't bring me into this" Natasha holds her hands up in mock surrender. I've had enough now.

"You know guys, I am in the room and on your side but if you keep talking about me like I'm not here that might just change." I turn to Wanda, mentally pleading her to help a girl out. She understands immediately.

"If you all don't shut up right now I'm going to put my powers to good use and place very clear images in your minds from when I walked in on Thor and Jane fondueing" she calls and I burst out laughing, guessing all too well what fondueing means. Everyone stops talking immediately.
"Thankyou" Wanda says. "Personally, I think Adaline will be a brilliant addition to the team. With her inside knowledge and skills we might be able to take down HYDRA once and for all."

"I second that" Bruce states and the corner of his mouth lifts up as he glances in my direction. I return the gesture, appreciative.

"My thoughts exactly, Miss Maximoff" Fury states. "This is my decision and it's final. That is, if Miss Nightshade decides to accept the offer."

Everyone's heads turn in my direction and eventhough I know I don't exactly have a choice, even though my mind should be purely focused on revenge, I can't help but want to be a part, however small and untrusted, of this weird, crazy family. Assassins shouldn't feel this way. But I do.

"I accept" I confirm and can't help but return Wanda's beaming smile.

"Then you are officially an Avenger. Congratulations, Nightshade."

"Welcome to the group, kid" Tony winks and I stick my tongue out at him playfully.

"Good to have you on board" Clint says.

Bruce nods in my direction as Natasha makes her way over to me. "Look, Nightshade, I don't trust easy and everyone here might approve of you but I'm still keeping an eye on you. You've been given a very important role in the safety of our world. Don't screw it up."

Though I want to snap back an offensive retort at her coldness towards me, one pleading look from Bruce stops me.

"Wasn't planning to" I smile and watch her walk away after nodding stiffly before I smell the scent of a familiar cologne and feel someone beside me.

Steve.

His warm breath tickles my neck as he leans down, his lips brushing my ear.
"Let's Introduce you to the rest of the team."

After demanding that Fury sends a team of agents to my apartment to collect my clothes and books, along with only one t shirt of Leo's and his favourite watch which I described in perfect detail to hold onto, I find myself in the Avengers tower surrounded by my new team mates.
The laminated floors, expensive furniture, floor length windows and open space makes my eyes widen at the luxurious setting. Damn, is Tony Stark stylish.
The elevator takes us down into a main living area and kitchen, where a man with slicked back, ebony hair, pale skin and green clothing is reading in an armchair. I recognise him as Loki of Asgard.
