It's a couple of hours later when Wanda knocks on my door, cup of steaming coffee in hand.
"Here" she says, handing me the cup.
"Thanks" I grin, letting the warmth of the cup toast my fingers in a pleasurable heat before taking a sip. Not quite how I like it but I appreciate it all the same.
"I see the clothes fit" she nods, eyeing the blue skinny jeans and black sweater I'm now wearing.
"Yeah, thanks. I won't lie though, I miss my leather jacket."
"No need. Fury's here. Your stuff too. Do you have enough possessions or is 28 boxes and a suitcase not enough?" Wanda laughs, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah with the exception of the suitcase, It's all books" I smile, taking another sip of my coffee.
"So you're a reader, huh? That's cool. Anyway, we should get going." She says, linking an arm through mine. Anyone else and I probably would have gauged their eyes out with a spoon. But there's something comforting about Wanda, a calm that only comes with a bestfriend. A calm that I once felt with Leo. It's nice to feel it again.
"Let's go" I repeat.
"There she is!" Tony sings, sending me a wink. I stick my tongue out at him, playfully, ignoring Steve's look of mild disapproval. So serious.
"Miss Nightrose" Fury greets, his voice and expression remaining neutral as I reply with "Pirate Patch!"
"You know if any of us called him that we'd be 6 feet under" Clint points out.
"Yeah but if he told Adaline to stop, so would he" Tony chuckles.
"Mr. Stark!" I say, in a high pitched voice. "You're making me blush!"
"Don't let Pepper hear you say that" Bruce grins.
"Oh, I won't" I wink.
"Oh God there's two of them" Bruce sighs, looking up.
"What's the matter, Brucie? Can't handle two Starks?" Tony grins.
"Tony we can barely handle you" Clint says.
"Pepper deserves an award" Steve adds.
"We all deserve an award" Bucky says, speaking for the first time.
"We all need to shut up and listen to Fury because undoubtedly it's important!" Natasha's voice rises above the team's playful joking and we all fall silent.
"Thankyou, Miss Romanoff." Fury responds. "Now, as you should all know, with the exception of Thor who will be updated as soon as he arrives and Loki who is currently being supervised by Vision, HYDRA are currently in possession of unknown files. Whatever they are planning can't be good so our next mission is to retrieve these files from the compound of which Miss Nightrose told us of yesterday and destroy them. It is S.H.I.E.L.D.'s job to undergo a risk assessment before we take any serious action, meaning don't go off and do anything stupid until I send Agent Hill with the details as soon as possible. That's all for now. Oh, and your stuff is in the next room Miss Nightrose."
"Thank you, Sir" Steve nods.
"So what do we do in the meantime?" I ask.
"I suggest you get to know your new teammates. Train with them, memorize their fighting style. Your life may just depend on it" Fury replies and with that, he turns and strides from the room, coat sweeping out behind him. I swear it does that out of respect.
I spend the next few hours in my room after Tony graciously installs 2 new book cases ( I say graciously but I actually threatened that if he didn't do it straight away I would paint all of his iron man suits hot pink because am I fuck leaving my books to be homeless until he does it), unpacking and placing my books onto them as well as placing my very small amount of clothing in the very large wardrobe. Oh well, gives me an excuse to go shopping I guess.
