The Path

Chapter 1

Sunday morning, 8:15 am July 17. Julianna, Katie and Michael walk through the city of Seattle, WA. Not having a care in the world about the rain paling down on their light summer sweaters.While almost passing the court house, the trio, along with many other citizens, stop to witness a man with policeman covering him as he walks up the steps while being integrated by reporters with microphones and cameras.

"Mr. Feliciano, what do you think the jury will have to say about the horrific crime of kidnapping and murdering an innocent 15 year old girl?"

A female reporter asks.

"Wait, did she just say 15 years old?!" Michael asks with a stunned face and a dropped jaw.

"That's only one year younger than us." Katie

implies.

"I'm not surprised about the fucked up things people do these days." Julianna states as she convinces the group to keep on moving. While cutting through the crowd of people Julianna bumps into an old man causing her to fall to the ground. At that moment Julianna seems to get a slight headache as her eyes start to hurt. But she snaps out of it as Michael helps her up. Julianna scowls "Watch where you're going Grandpa!". Not realizing that the man is blind. A few more blocks down, they all make it to Julianna's house. By the time they get there, they are all soaked from the rain. Inside Julianna's mother is making breakfast, and then later on she will be making dinner. When they manage to make it inside, they all kick off their shoes while trying to remove the drenched clothes as if they were glued to their body. "Michael there are some dry clothes in the guest room." Mari directs. "Thanks Ms. Raymond!" Michael replies while walking down the hallway to the guest room. "Come on." Juliana says as she leads Katie to her room to get dry clothes. They all come back to the kitchen table with sweat pants and blankets. With perfect view of the living room TV. Channel 5 is on with the news broadcasting the courtroom of which Chris Feliciano is being interagated by the DA. They fast forward to the jury's verdict for the defendant. "We find the defendant guilty, on account of murder and kidnapping". "That's the guy we saw earlier today, right?!" Michael squeaks as Julianna gives him a dirty look. "Oops!" as he backs down.

" What does he mean, you saw earlier today Julianna?" Mari questions as she puts her hands on her hips with a stern look towards Julianna.

"It was nothing , we just passed by the courthouse, on our way home."

"I thought I told you not to go that way Julianna!" As she tries to seem angry.

Mari never really gets angry. Infact she use to never have to until her husband left her for a work colleague.Now Mari was a single mother with no disapline skills to teach her daughter. Her husband treated her like a queen and Julianna like a princess. Then everything just started falling apart when he left her. Julianna had the choice to either stay with her mother or go live the high life with her father, but she couldn't do that to her mother. It would be too painful. So Julianna stayed with her mother supporting her as best as a 16 year old girl could. Mari doesn't ask much of Julianna, in fact she doesn't know how to. That's why Julianna takes it easy on her mother at times. Not all the time, but at times. Julianna's father tries calling her to hang out with him sometimes, but she sees the look on her mother's face when he does so she tells him "Why do you wanna hang out with me when you have like 10 million other kids with that slut!". So she hangs up and hugs her mother. Julianna will never forget what her father did. But she will always remember how strong her mother was when it did happen.

" Come on mom! It's shorter than the old boring way you want me to go!"

"But it's also more safe." As she picks up the television remote and turns off the TV.

"And plus I dont want you listening to that stuff on TV. It's horrible! The man kidnapped and killed a girl around your age, and he even admit to it! But the ever weirder thing about it is he hasn't told the police where the body is. Can you imagine how that poor family Is feeling right now. I can't imagine if anything like that ever happened to you."

"And nothing will mom!" Julianna says as she wraps her arms around her mother.

"Whatever, just take the path I tell you to next time." As she serves plates with food on the table to the three starving teenagers.
