The typical day at the movie theatre had been no other. Usually, couples and vague lonely teens with their somewhat friends would come in and buy overly expensive tickets and added greasy foods that would make them regret buying during their movie. Then the older aggressive adults would begin shushing that would start to make more noise than anything. As well always being one person who is on their phone.
But nobody knew anyone as they sit together in a group right before the movie would start that give the sense of silence yet still being entertain. And wasn't it the worst when a really popular movie seem to captured everyone's attention that made seize the supposedly better seats?
But the worst was the one who had to clean it all up. Popcorn was spatted on the floor and having to be the one to mop and vacuum the floor insisted that one's job was not externally proud to have. And that insolent person was Maureen Collins. She had been the one to stay an hour extra to have some extra cash before graduating high school in a few days.
Maureen hadn't mind to do such a thing, yet she only asks one thing to be secure it tis not be alone. However, that request had been denied by many of her coworkers had walked out of the back doors. Every time she saw people opening the door and not coming back- her eyes shown warier and almost to frighten for her delight.
It was near 1:00 am where it only left Maureen and her manager who was looking over the cashiers to check everything in place. At this point, Maureen had only been an hour left more until she can lock up the place. Seemly to say Maureen had glanced at her watch over a couple of minutes feeling it tick and tock over course knowing that her manager was to be sure to finish soon to catch a plane fated to land for her to enter. Leaving her to be alone.
"Well, I should be taking off I wouldn't want to miss my flight" Mrs Stevens had huffed.
"Of course, you should very well be enjoying London." Maureen had sighed in defeat not being able to complete with contain company.
"Don't forget to turn off every light and make sure this place is empty and no soul to be seen." Maureen gulp as she perceives Mrs Steven to be a minute out of her hair.
"Bye Mrs Stevens"- Maureen's voice had hoarse at the end of her farewell.
After her manager had left Maureen had rapid her pace to be home. Maureen kept thinking about how lovely it would be to be in her soft bed. It encourages her to be swift around the theatre.
Maureen had only needed to check the theatre and put off the lights before walking through the doors. As she slowly walking pace down the halls to admire the photos on the walls, she stops to look at one as she takes away eyes from the photo but to the reflection, she takes close look at what she thought to be her shadow but remembers that shadows can't move. Maureen whirls around to only catch her foolishness and blank space. Had she not only felt silliness at first but a slight breeze that ran through her. Maureen had shrivelled in her own body and made no time to start running to the exit. She had watched too many horror movies to understand how the most characters die. But why had she not learn the most predictable thing was the door being locked when trying to twist the knob. When she had reached her pockets but to feel solely the outline material and air -she cursed under her breath and fanatically went in search of the keys.
The lights flicker as she ran through the theatre - it felt as if every time she blinked the more and more she felt fear rise up her. Maureen opened Mrs Stevens office and shut the door and adding the lock before moving up the desk area. Hands scatter through drawers and papers that she hadn't noticed a pair of grubby hands gripping her ankles and setting her body of balance but on the floor. Had she not dared to look back and be swallowed with fear forever till her death and soon she had thought. It was not like of her to take such a risk look back and see such a grotesque thing. Maureen was now felt as if this was a distorted dream that meant nothing but of a trick of the mind. What gives her reality more of twist was the pain in her leg that spotted the monster to take a bite out her like last nights leftovers. The misproportioned monster had scratch and ripped her flesh making a stingy smell of blood floating in the air. Maureen was not to give up just yet and were to kick the crooked head and when succeeding she crawled away trying to reach the door.
When only having one leg and weak arms Maureen tried standing up and hopping on one foot. Flashes of the monster kept appearing in her mind and the more she concentrating on it she found the monster to look just like her but the facile almost being melted and hair to only be recognised as rags of grey hair surly tangle. The skin was not to be forgotten skin that pierced her brain. Not only did it look like it was peeling off but bugs were crawling all over the scabs.
Maureen's whines and whimpers bound against the barrier between the outside and her.
Maureen had known that the monster had purposely let her walk around but she wasn't as idiotic as she hoped. The exit she had once attempted to open had swung over and made a high pitch whinge leave Maureen throat. She even used her scrap town leg even though it'cause agony pain arises utter pain. Luck was not on her side though when she was completing with walls moving in and verging upcoming each step she took.
She pushes on the ball of feet ever so more when about to go to the other side the walls crush her leaving showers of red. But with conscious as its revealed.
Mrs Stevens shakes her as Maureen's body begins to take control again. When being aware of her surroundings she realizes she's in the front seat of one of the movie theatres. The ending credits come up from a horror film about disfigure clones that kill students. Recklessness washes over Maureen as well a thick layer of sweat.
"Are you alright Maureen do you need to go home ?" Mrs Stevens asks in a concerned voice.
Maureen gets up and looks around once more and stares back at Mrs Stevens bother eyes and inhales tad of air and breathes out a loose of air and muffed okay.
Mrs Stevens still wary of Maureen but lets it go and says-.
"Alright, but can you do me a favour and stay a little bit to lock up for me?"
Maureen's eyes bugged out and faint.
