2010

Ash was a senior now. His last year in high school and then he got to leave.

I however, was still stuck here for two more years.

Yay.

"why the sad face Lace?" Ash asked me, silencing his drums.

"What? Nothing. I'm fine." I told him, looking up at him from my spot on the bean bag.

"Oh my god lacy, tell me what's wrong." he stood up and walked over to where I was sitting and pulled me up to sit next to him on his bed.

"Okay, it's just, I don't know." I started, before stopping and letting out a loud sigh. "You're graduating this year ash. And I'm not."

"And what? Lacey, just because I'm graduating and you're not doesn't mean shit."

"How could you even say that Ashton? It actually means a lot." I said, standing up and walking around his room.

"It means you're going to be free to follow your dreams, it means you get to go wherever you want, it means you're going to forget about me!"

"Hey, hey hey hey. Stop. Okay? Stop crying okay?" He told me, getting up and taking my hands away from face. He bent down so that he was looking in my eyes before he started to speak again.

"I'm not going anywhere. Do you hear me? I'm not going, anywhere. I'm never going to leave you on your own. I promise." He said, stroking my cheek with his thumb.

"Don't make promises you can't keep Ash." I told him, pulling away and walking out of his room, towards the front door.

"Lacey! Wait okay! Just wait one fucking second." He called after me, running to grab my hand from the door handle.

"What Ashton? Just let me go."

"Listen there's something I need to tell you. It'll probably just make this whole situation worse but I've got to talk to someone and you're the only person I have." His voice was shaking and I could tell he was nervous by the way he kept rubbing his thumb on my hand.

"What is it Ash? Is everything okay?" I asked, going to sit on the couch, with him following close behind.

"Yeah, everything's fine. I got a call today." He started. "A call from a kid named Michael. He's in your grade and he wanted to know if I'd play the drums for one of their upcoming gigs." He said, a smile showing up on his radiant face.

"Ash! That's amazing! You're gonna play your very first gig! Oh my god Ashton! When is it? I call being in the front row! Wait who all is in the band? Oh my god what if they hate me?"

"Slow down! It's this Friday night at that restaurant down town. Of course you can be front row, Michael, Luke, and Calum are all in the band, they go to the school right by the McDonald's we always go to. And why the fuck would they hate you? You're amazing."

I immediately got up from where I was sitting and pulled him up with me to start jumping around and screaming.

"Oh my god! Oh my god! You're first gig! You're famous!" I squealed, making Ashton tilt his head back in laughter before picking me up to spin me around.

"This is amazing!" He shouted.

He set me down, but we kept our arms wrapped around each other for a few more minutes.

"I'm so proud of you." I whispered.

"I haven't done anything yet." He whispered back.

"But you will, I know you will. One day you'll be changing people's lives through music, Ash. Believe me, you will."

And then he bent his head down to look into my eyes, right before pressing his lips to mine.

At first I was too shocked to kiss back, but after the initial shock, I melted into him.

Butterflies and fireworks were erupting in the pit of my stomach until he pulled away.

my lips were still tingling when he finally spoke up.

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be." I said, and then attached our lips once more.
