*hey guys! its sammy! this will be my first story and i really hop you guys like it!*

I have always been told not to talk to strangers and that everyone isn’t nice, but I think otherwise. I believe that everyone has something special about them. You just have to find it, dig deep; there will always be something there. It will happen just don’t give up. Hi my name is Josh I am 10 years old and this is my story.

My life has always been hard. My parents died on my fifth birthday. It was May 12 at about 7:00 a.m. and I had just woken up. I was so excited to be five. I went straight to my parent’s room to wake them up. But when I went in there nobody was there. I felt a cold wind hit me. Looking around the house for my parents I suddenly see my grandmother in the living room. She was on the phone. “Okay, thank you officer,” she hung up the phone. “Who was that Grandma?” I asked immediately puzzled. “Come here Joshie, Grandma has something to tell you,” She said in a scratchy tone. I slowly went to sit next to my grandma on our old leather couch. “What is it Grandma?” I was scared. “Joshie, I’m so sorry. Your Mommy and Daddy had gone to get you a present this morning, very early. They were on their way to Toys R’ Us©. Daddy was driving. They had gotten to a stop light. When a big semi truck had broken his brakes and not been able to stop. Daddy tried his best to get out of the way but, wasn’t fast enough.” Grandma took many pauses. “So that means…” I said not really knowing was happening next. “It means that Mommy and Daddy are gone.” At that point I was in shock. My grandma had token me into her arms and started to tear up. I as well started to tear up. I thought and thought about what to do next. My vision started to blur up as the tears filled up in my eyes and start to flow out.

It had been five years since then. My Grandma and I have moved on and had forgotten as much as possible. Today was a very special day for me. It was September 5 and it was my first day of 5th grade. Grandma had picked out some nice things to wear and made sure I was ready for school. I heard a horn go off from outside. So I grabbed my backpack gave my grandma a hug and headed outside to the bus. “Good morning Josh,” the bus driver had always known my name, I was his favorite passenger. “Good morning Mr. Welch” I spoke in an even tone. “Take a seat Josh,” “Will do Mr. Welch,” I took my favorite seat and sat next to my best friend. His name was Sean. “Hi Josh,” (Sean had been my best friend since kindergarten) “Hi Sean are you ready for our last year of Lincoln Elementary School?” we always talked so formal for no reason.

When the bus finally reached school Sean and I raced to the school door. We stopped when we got to the door huffing and puffing. Sean opened the door for me and we walk to our new class room. It was a bright room full of colorful posters and pictures. We took our seats and watched as everyone else walked in. Once everyone had gathered into the room the teacher walked to the front of the classroom. “Hello students. My name is Mrs. Doughty I hope you guys are excited for 5th grade. To start off our day we are going to go around the classroom and introduce ourselves. Let’s start with you,” She pointed to a small girl with brown curly hair who looked happy to be here. She spoke very sweetly and had a wonderful voice. “Hi my name is Talia and I enjoy playing basketball and softball. I have a Mom, Dad, three sisters, Ashley, Alexi, and Sammie; I also have a brother named Drew.” She was so amazing.  “Thank you very much Talia. Anyone want to go next?” I saw a hand shoot up in the air next to me, it was Sean. “Hi my name is Sean. I really love to play soccer and play with my dog. I have a Mom, Dad, Sister Jenny, and dog named Spot.” “Thank you Sean, look at the time it looks like it’s time for us to tour the school.” We all got up and stood in a blob. I was standing next to Sean. I looked around to find Talia. She was standing right next to me.“Hi my name’s Talia, what’s yours?” I was speechless I can’t believe she talked to me “Uhh my name is Josh.” I stuttered. “I like that name. You want to walk with me?” “Sure. But can my friend Sean walk with us too?” “Sure why not,”

We all walked together as the teacher lead us around the school. First we stopped at the office. It was the place where we would go if we were late or hurt/sick. (We went through the same tour every year in case of any new students). Next was the art room, the gym and the music room. The music room was always my favorite room. I loved to listen and sing. Playing the piano was my favorite. My grandma had taught me how to play. I was actually quite good. “Hey Josh” Talia spoke to me “do you like to play piano?” “Yeah I do. My grandmother taught me how to.” “That’s cool do you want to play something?” I thought about the offer and I guess I would. The teacher was letting us play in the instruments anyway. “Sure I will.” I sat at the piano chair as the Sean and Talia gathered around me. I took a deep breath and started to play a little tune. It was a fast beat play. As I finished up I saw a smile grow across Talia and Sean’s face. “Good job Josh!” the both said. “Thanks guys.” I answered. As all the students gathered at the door the teacher made an announcement. “The last place that is on our tour is the playground!!” she said very excitedly. A few cheers went off in the classroom. We all walked out of the room and were lead to the playground. Once outside everyone ran I followed Talia to the swings. Sean, Talia, and I all got on a swing and started to swing. It was so much fun. It felt like nothing was wrong in my life. When the time end we all went back inside and gathered our things. School was over. Sean and I got on the bus together. I was always the last stop. Sean and I talked about how great our day was. The horn honked. I said bye to Sean and told him I would see him on Monday.

The bus finally got to my stop. I walk off the bus and say goodbye to Mr. Welch. He drives away. I safely cross the street. I see my grandma sitting on the porch reading a book. “Hi Joshie how was your first day of 5th grade?” “Great!! I meet a new friend.” “Really? What’s the name?” “Her name is Talia. She’s really nice.” “That’s good to hear. Now let’s go inside and get some dinner made.”

I walked inside and was greeted by a box of grapes. I loved the taste of grapes. it was my favorite food. I picked up the box of grapes and my backpack. I went to set my backpack in my room. I heard my name being called. I ran to the kitchen. “What do you want for dinner Joshie?” “Ummm how about some” I had no idea what I wanted but then it hit “… PIZZA!!!” “Ok then I could go for some pizza,” Grandma called Pizza Hut© and told them we wanted a cheese pizza.

In about an hour the pizza man was here. Grandma paid the man and brought the pizza to the table. “Okay Joshie how many pieces to you want?” “Two please,” She put two pieces of pizza onto the plate and handed it to me. I went to the fridge and grabbed the ranch because that was what I dipped my pizza into. I squirted some on to my plate it made a little farting sound. Grandma and I laughed as I returned it to the fridge. We both sat on the couch and watched our favorite movie Finding Nemo©. We always watched a movie before bed on Monday’s, Wednesday’s, and Friday’s.

After our movie I headed to bed. I put on a pair of pajamas, brushed my hair and teeth, told grandma good night and went to bed. I always thought about my mom and dad before bed sometimes I would cry. My dad would always tell me “To meet new people, that everyone is special.” I always shy though he left me a box for when I got older but since he was dead I got it already. It had many special things in it. It had an old handheld radio that I listened to at night. It had many pictures of us in it. But the thing that I loved the most in it was the note he left me. It said “Dear Josh, I love you very much. I want you to go on a quest when you get this. I want to you to meet as many people as possible. Take pictures. I want to know that you’re not shy anymore want my boy to have friends there will be someone along the way that wants to tell you something. You need to find who. Love, Dad” today this note really got to me I wanted to make my dad proud. I decided this weekend I would go and meet all the people I could. I wasn’t afraid of anything. I believe I can do it.
