Anastasia's POV

"How was your Thanksgiving?" I ask smirking as Wally pulls his navy jacket closer as a cool fall breeze pushes past us. "Good, it's always nice to have a day where even villains take the day off and we can relax with our families." Wally explains, and I tug on his arm bringing him closer to my  side hoping to share some of my natural body heat.

"How was yours?" For a split second I freeze, and if I was with anyone else they wouldn't have noticed. But I'm not, I'm with Wally and a second to us is an hour for him. "What happened?" He asks his tone filling with concern, and I mentally kick myself for ruining what was supposed to be an enjoyable date.

"Nothing happened, it's just hard. Thanksgiving's supposed to be spent with your family and loved ones, but I haven't seen my family in years because..." I pause trying to come up with a lame excuse, but this is Wally I'm talking too. I think I can at least tell him. "You know you never told me why you and your mom left Paradise Island."

"Well that's because my mom's not necessarily proud of it. It took her years to tell me the truth." I explain remembering how mad I was at Grandma for her unfair treatment when I first learned the whole story. "You don't have to tell me..."

"No it's fine. My mom broke the Amazons most sacred law, she brought men to the island when Felix Faust turned us all to stone. With the Leagues help she stopped him from releasing Hades, and turned us all back to normal. However my grandma was to proud to accept that the men my mom brought could save them, and banished her."

His grip on my hand continues to tighten as we keep walking, and I distract myself by focusing on the dwindling clouds in the sky. He'll try his best but he could never really understand Amazon traditions and beliefs because he didn't grow up with them. Even I after years of separation and struggling with an identity crisis realize how absurd they are, and I had all the ideals memorized by age three.

"So she just left? Didn't fight with her, or argue how ridiculous she was being, and the League allowed this woman to walk all over your mom?" He asks in disbelief and I nod simply.

"By that time my mom had already started to separate herself so if they weren't going to change then she saw no point in wasting her breath, but that's not the only reason my grandma despises my mom to this day. When she banished my mom she expected I would stay so she could continue to raise me to be the perfect Amazon warrior." I scowl imagining how gruesome and isolated I would be if I were still there.

"I'm guessing your mom wasn't having that?" He chuckles but I can see the worry in his usually bright green eyes. "My grandma said the only reason my mom had me was because of Zeus, and she could not turn her back on him by taking his gift and ruining it." I scoff still infuriated that they argued over me like I was nothing more than an object.

"I was supposed to be the perfect Amazon, and I was my grandma's golden child. I'm sure she would drop dead if she saw me now defying everything she believes." It sucks because even though I hate her and my sisters for being ignorant, I hate myself for still wanting their approval.

Sometimes I'm thankful she can't see what I've become, and I hope she still imagines me as that well behaved girl. At the same time my mom has taught me the importance of being my own person with my own opinions, and I want my grandma to see that as well. "It hurts knowing my family will never accept or be proud of the person I have become."

"I'm proud of you." Relaxing I turn into his side everything temporarily falling back into place as I'm reminded once again why I do everything I do. "Maybe your old man is proud of you too." He continues pressing a kiss to my temple as we continue walking.

"What do you mean?" I question not catching on but curious as to where he's taking this. "Maybe he's watching us right now, and he's proud of you because you decided for yourself who you were going to be. Maybe he actually wants you to be different and bring change."

"Thank you Wally." I mumble turning in his arms easily winding my arms around his neck so I can pull him into a kiss. I chuckle as he jumps landing on my foot completely caught off guard, but I'm so delighted I hardly care.

"You always know what to say." I sigh happily.

"I could say the same for you."
