I was walking home in the rain after school when everything changed.
I was a student at Woodrow High School. I live in Woodrow's gated community a mile and a half away from the school. Meaning I'm the only one at Woodrow of the upper class. I don't go to The Academy like every other teen in the gated community. Everyone at the High school is of a lower class so they all ride the bus or ride a bike. I walk. I'm the only one in the gated community that walks instead of drives or has someone else drive them everywhere.
I love the rain which causes everyone within the gates to think I'm weird and a social outcast.
They aren't wrong, I never claimed to be normal. My hairs a natural fire red; my eyes are a golden hazel, and my skin a perfect ivory. None of it's normal around here in Woodrow. No one, not even my parents have red hair, no one even dares to dye their hair red least the Curse of Robin strikes. Which is probably why people either pity me or they're afraid of me. Everyone except my best friend, Tiffany that is.
Tiffany is extremely popular at both the High School and the Academy. She might not live in the gates or go to the Academy. Though she was given the opportunity to go to the Academy; instead she chose to stay at the High School. She's what we consider lower upper class or even upper middle class. Rich enough for the Academy, but it'd hurt her family severely.
Tiffany is a natural platinum blonde with violet blue eyes and pale ivory skin. She has a tattoo on her right shoulder of two perfect angel wings. I swear sometimes she actually glows sometimes. Every guy wants to date her and every girl, besides me, wants to be her.
Now back to how everything changed, I was walking home in the rain when I saw two people come out of thin air. I thought I was imagining it, until I saw Tiffany with her cousin Jack. They seemed to be looking for something or someone.
"Jack, I know where she lives, we could easily go there instead of looking all around town for her." Tiffany said to him.
"Oh, Tiff, you are here to learn, and one of our protocols is to never, I repeat, NEVER, go to one of their houses. She's special, not a sentinel like the last one. Nor is she a countess like the one before that. Nor is she a searcher like us. She's not a noble nor a peasant either. This one, if I'm not mistaken is pure royalty. So, we must find her when no one is looking, for she is to inherit the Crown of Elelini."
"Quiet. I think someone's listening." Tiffany says and all I can think is. I've been caught. I am so dead. What is going on here?
"Hey, Kathrine Jay. Nice to see you here." Jack says with his usual flippant swag that makes me want to punch him in the face. "You're actually just the gal we were looking for."
"I'm sorry." Tiffany says from beside me as she places her finger tips on my forehead. I can't help but feel betrayed and I don't even know why before everything goes dark.
