Steve tied his shoelaces in a perfect military fashion, and then went out for his daily 5 am run, while he ran,
Dark hair caught his eye. It was clay leaning into the metal rail that wrapped itself around the bridge. Steve stopped running and then began slowly walked toward her. He cleared his throat leaning on the metal rail next to her she jolted slightly but calmed when Steve smiled like a friendly grandfather. " He really isn't a bad guy. " Clays eyes glazed with heavy thought look once more at the water she almost died in, clay turned to Steve " ...I suppose... How could he not know, how could no one have told me my father is Tony Stark? " Steve stood tall and then faced his back to the metal rail, leaning his lower back on the bar " I don't really know the kid. But the one thing I do know. Is no matter the mistakes you make, he'll always welcome you home...he's good like that " Steve trailed off while staring into the night sky. Clay could feel the bromance from the few words he said. Clay looked back out to the stars and heaved " I've been standing here for hours... Trying to understand. " steve edge ever so slightly closer. " Understand what? " Steve said in a soft tone, clay took a deep breathe " understand, why I deserve being saved. " a tear escaped her right eye, Steve turned to face clay and then forced an embrace from her. She tried to push away, but her weak arms stood no ground and failed. She had never had someone care about her like this, ever before.
Steve looked into clays eyes " let's go home, kid." Clay smiled.*Clays POV *
My eyes lifted, softly and calmly. And just as I did, a loud crash of thunder hit the ground rashly. I jumped up to look out the window. Pulling the tan colored blinds I saw a sunny day, with some to none clouds. Which struck me as unusually.I pulled dark black skinny jeans up my pure white legs, with red blood filled scars that floated across them. Threw on the old band shirt that I stole from goodwill when I was 12. And walked out the metaled or some hard type of material door, to a floor full of Avengers. Cap turned to face me " Good morning, would you mind hanging in Tony's lab today? we're gonna have some less than friendly visitors" He said in a different tone of voice, less friendly but more strict. I nodded, and awkwardly looked around, and then continued on to Starks lab.
*third person POV*
A light knock hit the door. Alerting Tony " Friday, open the door" he commanded, Friday obeyed opening said door.
In walked a frail clay, awkwardly standing waiting for an okay to sit down, and continue to waste her day.
Tony looked up from his glass board with a complex equation written on it, he turned " clay, you came back... I mean, good morning. " clay couldn't help but smile, he was almost in tears. " yeah, sorry about that scene. I'm not one to, cause a lot attention to be called. " Tony shook his head " No, you're fine. We all do that. Steve is a damn drama queen. " clay chuckled " really he says you have a flair for the dramatic "she said under her breathe. Tony lifted his eyebrow in an ' oh no he didn't ' type of look " he said what " clay darted her eyes " uh, nothing. Nothing at all. "
They shared a laugh, Tony felt he found someone he was missing all along. And so did clay. Clay was about to say something else but was cut off by Friday " Excuse me sir, the guest had arrived. " Tony sighed " great. " he looked over at clay " Just hang tight. I'll be back in a little. " he smiled and patted her on the shoulder and left the room.
Clay sighed, and looked over the equation, she looked confused " It's... It's, wrong. " she picked up the blue dry erase pen and began to rewrite and solve it.
An hour had passed, she filled up the board with blue. Tony slowly came into the room and watched in amazement.
After realizing get was standing there watching her like a creep, he couldn't help but to blurt out "So, the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree. " His manly voice alerted clay, clay's dull brown eyes, which started to show more life widened " Oh shit, I'm sorry..." Tony began to walk closer to the board " Its probably wrong anyway, But the formula was wrong. So I fixed it. " She said lightly, trying to find a way to make sure he wasn't mad at her, Marcus had beaten her for far less, so her heart raced a little bit. Tony stared at clay's work in amazement. After a little bit, clay spoke up " Y-you aren't mad, are you?" she said in a shy voice. She twirled her fingers in an anxious manner " N-no way, kid. I haven't found the solution to this, for months. Thank you." he turned and faced clay with a smile.Tony then walked passed clay to a computer, typing in clay's work. He bites his bottom lip in confusion " Do you think you could help me with this too?" he asked in such a soft voice. Clay nodded in a smile, this smile was genuine, she was happy in this time.
After a few hours in Tony's lab, clay's phone rang, she shuffled it out of her pocket
* Incoming call from "Parker" *
She turned to tony " Do you mind if i- " she was cut off by tony shaking his head no, and waving her off to answer it. She left the room and went onto the balcony
Clay answered the phone " H-hello, Peter. " she also smiled at his name. A raspy voice came through the phone " Clay, hey, sorry for calling you, and for such short notice, but may woke me up from a much-needed nap-" May's voice overshadowed Peters voice " he was asleep for 4 hours." Clay laughed "Mayyy. " Peter whined, " Anyway as I was saying, May wanted to know if you would like to come to get some food with us.." Peter said, and then whispered " She says she's gonna cook, but we all know how that'll end. " They both laughed " I'd love to... ill be right-" Peter cut clay off " ill come and get you, the house smells like a burnt oven. " Peter said " Oh okay, see you soon, " Clay said to Peter.
