things you said when you thought I was asleep

the bonfire crackled before you as you swayed in and out of contented sleep. the stars shone brightly like diamonds placed in the sky. the cool wind blew making you shiver softly despite the quilt wrapped around you. you shimmied closer to the boy beside you and he placed his strong arms around you, making you feel safer than ever before.
you friends had dragged you to one last bonfire by the ocean before it began to snow and winter would have its icy grip on the world once again. jungkook, one of the best people you knew was very insisted on you coming and if you had said no there was no doubt he would carry you to the beach himself. as of now, midnight was ever approaching and the sand was cold underneath you, eyes heavily closing.
"aww, what a cute couple," your mutual friend jimin teased from beside jungkook.
"shut up." jungkook seethed hugging you closer.
"she obviously likes you... and it's no secret you like her too." jimin said and you tried your best not to react, although his words shook away some of the grogginess. you strained to hear them over the crashing waves and crackling wood.
"she doesn't though. she deserves way better anyway, way more than I could give her," he spoke softly emotion coating the words.
"oh jungkook, you idiot." you could hear the disappointment in jimin's voice as he looked to the blazing fire before him once again. yes jungkook, you thought, you idiot.
you had liked him for the longest time, denying your love but reveling in it anyways. and to think he could feel the same way always seemed impossible. but now...
you snuggled in closer and opened your eyelids, looking up at jungkook with shining eyes.
he was looking at you too.
