Bucky watched you from afar. You were beautiful, perfect and he knew he'd give up anything for just the briefest moment. A fleeting second. For you to notice him.

To see him.

But you couldn't. He knew that. And it ripped at him. Yet he came everyday. Just to get a glance at you. The way your eyes lit up when you laughed. The way the sun lit your face.

He didn't know too much about love, but he was fairly certain this is what it was.

But he had to stay hidden, in the shadows. He couldn't give away what he was. No, you'd certainly know that he wasn't like you, that he was something else. No one would understand, you wouldn't understand.

"I don't want the world to see me

'Cause I don't think that they'd understand

When everything's made to be broken

I just want you to know what I am"

Yes, the angel was sure this was love.

All he wanted to do was to be with you. And he knew what he'd have to give up. But he also knew he'd move Heaven and earth to just be close to you. So he made a choice, one he knew would change everything.

He knew if he'd return, that would be it. He'd be forced to stay. Never return to earth, never see your beautiful face again. Would it matter? You didn't even know he existed. But Bucky knew it would matter to him.

"And all I can taste is this moment

And all I can breathe is your life

And sooner or later it's over

I just don't wanna miss you tonight"

There was no other real option for Bucky. He knew his destiny, no matter what happened. He'd give it up, he give it all up. He knew it would be worth it. Just to have your eyes finally, finally meet his. To have you know his existence.

So he gave up his wings. He gave up his grace.

Bucky became human.

It was painful. It was agonizing. It was exhausting, but you were all he could truly think about. He wanted to see you, hold you. It was an obsession. The others laughed, but he didn't care. He knew what he wanted.

"And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming

Or the moment of truth in your lies

When everything feels like the movies

Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive"

Bucky stood rooted to the spot. Your back was to him, your nose in a book. He'd never been this close, his senses overwhelmed, dialed to eleven. Everything felt strange, like it was in slow motion. He took a breath, a real, ragged breath and moved even closer.

He wanted to reach out, touch you. His heart absolutely ached. He was terrified, his palms sweaty. All of this human-ess was nearly too much. Was he doing too much? Was this a terrible idea?

Did he make a mistake?

It was now or never.

Take a chance, he told himself.

He moved around, sitting beside you on the bench. You were focused on the book you were reading. He wasn't even sure if you detected his presence. Doubt clouded his mind. Would you see him? Or was he still invisible to you?

He heard you take a breath. His own hitched in his throat. How would you react? You kept your eyes on your book, never looking up and took another breath. What were you thinking?

"About time you came over," you spoke and he stopped breathing as you lifted your eyes, meeting his. He looked at you, taking you in.

"I've been waiting."
