There is no worse feeling in the world than being dumped by the girl you’re actually madly in love with. Except being dumped by the girl you’re madly in love with, over a text. What went wrong? What did she mean by “moving 2 fast?” We haven’t done anything other than kiss, and I wasn’t pressuring her to have sex with me!

Hell, I’m a virgin and she isn’t!

Unfortunately, staying in the tour bus forever isn’t an option. I have a show to play tonight and thousands of fans who will be disappointed if I don’t give 110% of myself to the performance.

I’m angry and I’m hurting. My family spent the first two hours of our trip trying to get me to talk to them about what happened, but when I refused and snapped at them to leave me alone, they gave up. The next three hours were spent silently in my bunk, alternating between crying and punching my pillow. I would have punched the wall, but putting a hole in the wall of our tour bus would have been a very bad thing. I may be mad, but not mad enough to risk damaging Sheila. We have to be able to count on her to get us from venue to venue without any problems. She’s been so good to us. There’s no way I can hurt her. Even if I’m in pain.

At the first gas stop of our tour, halfway between home and the venue we’re playing in tonight, someone knocks on our bus door. I hear my sister answer it and greet whoever it is then other pleasantries are exchanged. I don’t recognize the other voice but I can tell it’s a girl. Curious and sore from laying in the same position for so long, I go check things out.

Standing at the top of our stairs is a girl about my age with long red hair and a smile so bright it could blind you. I already know I’m not going to like what comes next.

“Hi Ross!” she greets me. “I’m Sophia Lynn Moret! I’m a huge fan of yours! I’m the lead singer for Line Drive! Since we have a show tonight and we haven’t officially met, I came over to introduce myself!”

This red headed girl talks like the period key on her laptop broke so she has to end every sentence in an exclamation point. I’m in a bad mood. You do the math. Things are about to get ugly fast. Taking out my anger with Hannah by flipping out on my family and our opening band is a bad, bad idea. But it’s one I can’t stop.

It’s almost as if I’m having an out of body experience when I laugh and ignore the hand Sophia has held out for me to shake. “Do you always refer to yourself by your full name?”

Her smile fades just a little bit. Anyone not looking to see her demeanor crash would hardly notice the change. “No, because that’s not my full name. My middle name is Rachel.”

I laugh again. “So your name is Sophia Lynn? Did your parents hate you or something? Why would they give you two first names?”

“Ross!” my sister says. It’s a good thing our parents are asleep in the back room and Riker and Ryland went inside the gas station to get snacks, because if they heard me right now they would slap me and feed me soap and ground me for six years.

Sophia Lynn’s smile goes from perky to tight. “It’s okay, Rydel,” she says, exaggerating my sister’s name to point out that compared to our names, Sophia Lynn may as well be John Smith. “I was named after my grandmothers. My parents didn’t want to have to choose just one of their mothers, so they paid homage to both.” She waits for me to respond with an apology or at least an acknowledgement of some kind. When I don’t, she says, “I’ve heard nothing but good things about you, Mr. Lynch. It’s a shame to find out I’ve been lied to.”

Another sinister laugh escapes my lips. My brother Rocky puts his hand on my shoulder and tries to pull me back towards the bunk area of the bus. Ellington watches hopelessly from the couch. “He’s usually not so rude,” Rocky starts to explain, but I cut him off. “He’s right, I usually have a filter, but I’ve lost the ability to care.”
