"Well it's nice to meet you Luca." Max says kindly, with a warm and welcoming tone. Luca smiles a little but then flinches back again. "You- you aren't gonna hurt me like those boys, are you?" The younger boy stutters nervously. Max sighs and looks at the boy sympathetically. "Of course I'm not, they've really gone and left you in a right state though, haven't they?" The older boy says, empathy clear in the way he's speaking.
It's true though. The poor boy's nose is bleeding and now running down his chin, tears are streaming down his face at a steady pace and not to mention he's covered in bruises, a black eye evident.
"I'll help you get cleaned up, eh?" Max says warmly but also quietly, knowing it'd cost him an arm and a leg if anyone hears. The older boy offers his arm to Luca, and he hesitates for a second before taking it and nodding.
Max leads him into the boys toilets which are thankfully empty and, due to his tiny frame, with ease picks him up and places him onto a counter. "Take your blazer off bud." Max says, taking some tissues out of his pocket and slightly dampening them under the tap as best as he can.
Luca just complies and takes off the blazer, apprehensive of Max's every move. While Max is wiping the blood still steadily flowing down his face, Luca decides to speak up for the first time, "Is it wrong to want change?" He asks in barely a whisper.
"What do you mean by that buddy?" Max asks, putting a plaster on a cut on Luca's upper arm. "I mean like, should I not be able to love who I want to love?" Max sucks the air between his teeth violently. "I guess, but like, it's not allowed, it's not really our choice."
Luca pauses for a minute, leaving the two in a quite uncomfortable silence, until he breaks it again. "Well I wanna make it allowed." He says, a smile dancing on his lips. Max smiles back doubtfully, hoping the boy is being truthful.
