Princess Ivy came from a black and white kingdom, and she became jealous and overshadowed that her older sister became queen. Ivy decided to try and overthrow her sister to show that she herself deserved the crown—but she got caught, and her sister banished her to an island, where she was imprisoned for 10 years.
Sofia remembered the first time she let Amber know about her magical amulet. Amber was so jealous that she stole the Amulet from Sofia, and since that was a bad deed, the amulet cursed Amber by summoning Princess Ivy. Free from her prison, Ivy decided to take over Enchancia and stole Sofia's amulet, so it could be destroyed and not send her back to her island prison. She took a flying coach to the Blazing Palisades—which are now the Misty Palisades—to ask Everburn the Elder Dragon to melt the Amulet. But Amber, Sofia, and Cedric foiled her from doing that. Amber gave Sofia the Amulet back, but it wasn't enough to break the curse. At the castle, Ivy tried to hit Sofia with a memory-erasing dragonfly, but Amber saved her by letting herself get hit. This was enough to break the curse and send Ivy back to her island prison. Thanks to her dragonflies, nobody remembered Ivy or what she did, except Sofia.
Long after that, the animals in the castle caught a magical illness called the Deep Sleeps. Sofia's amulet sent her to Ivy's island to help her, though the latter refused help at first. Sofia helped Ivy find her magic butterflies, which are supposed to change anything colorful black and white—but they found some magical flowers that changed their colors. But after Ivy got her butterflies back, the Amulet wouldn't send Sofia back to Enchancia—it turned out she needed to help Ivy with something else. She met up with Miss Nettle, who had created said flowers, calling them Wake-Upsy Daisies. These flowers were to cure the Deep Sleeps, but Ivy's butterflies were supposed to pollenate the flowers, so they could survive. Since Ivy wouldn't help, Sofia set the butterflies free to pollenate the daisies, but Ivy caught her butterflies back. Right afterwards, her pet skunk, Roma, caught the Deep Sleeps much to Ivy's dismay. This broke her heart so badly that she even cried and voiced how this was a brand-new feeling to her. Sofia helped her see that she's feeling this way because she loves Roma and misses him. Ivy finally realized how powerful this feeling is, and she set her butterflies free to pollenate the Wake-Upsy Daisies. Ivy even proved to have become selfless by letting Sofia use a daisy to wake up Whatnaught first instead of waking up Roma right away. Ivy understood how it felt when friends were in trouble, and now she's helping Miss Nettle with her Wake-Upsy Daisies—and she even has a pair of sunglasses to block out the colors, so they don't sting her eyes. All Ivy wanted was a kingdom of her own, but she had one all along—her sister had sent her to this island to teach her a lesson.
It felt good that Ivy was a better person, but there was something she still needed to do.
Sofia was in the art room in Enchancia Castle. She invited her best friend—and boyfriend—Prince Hugo and their friends from the Corinthian Sports School to come over. This is a three-day weekend for the CSS, and today is Friday. They decided to take a break from sports and do something relaxing. She set up some bottles of paint in different colors: red, yellow, blue, black, and white.
"Well, the paint and canvas are ready, and so are the paintbrushes and easels," Sofia smiled. "We're all set for our friends to come over."
But then Sofia's amulet glowed blue—that meant the Secret Library was calling. She hurried to her room and found the book she needed to open the Secret Library. She went to the entrance of her secret passageway and told her amulet, "I wish to be small." The Amulet shrunk Sofia down to the size of a Wee Sprite, and she went through.
After riding her boat to the library, Sofia put the book through the lock on the door, and when the doors open, she ran right in. A black and white book flew down in front of Sofia, and today's story was titled...
"The Tale of Princess Ivy and Queen Glory," Sofia read the title of the book. "This must be about Ivy and her sister."
The book flew into the pendulum, and Sofia listened to the story.
Once, there was a princess named Ivy. She grew up in a black and white kingdom, and she knew how to make magic buterflies that can drain away color and magic dragonflies that can erase people's memories.
One day, when Ivy's older sister, Glory, became queen, Ivy was green—green with jealousy. She felt overshadowed, and she wanted people to notice her the way they'd notice Glory, so she tried to overthrow the queen. But Ivy was caught, and Glory banished her to an island, where she remained imprisoned.
Ten years later, Princess Amber of Enchancia jealously stole the Amulet of Avalor from her stepsister, Sofia, in order to make it summon a Disney Princess like it did for Sofia. But the rules of the Amulet were "With each deed performed for better or worse, a power is granted, a blessing or curse"—and stealing the Amulet counted as a bad deed, so the Amulet cursed Amber by bringing Ivy to Enchancia. Ivy plotted to take over Enchancia and destroy the Amulet, so it would never send her back to her island prison again. In order to destroy the Amulet, Ivy went to Everburn the Elder Dragon to melt it. To Ivy's dismay, Amber took the Amulet back and gave it to Sofia—but it wasn't enough to break the curse. After the Amulet summoned Princess Rapunzel, she helped Amber learn how to put others first in order to save her loved ones. Ivy was about to hit Sofia with a memory-erasing dragonfly, but Amber saved her by letting herself take the hit—and as a result, the curse was broken, and Ivy was sent back to her island prison.
Sometime afterwards, Princess Sofia was sent by her amulet to Ivy's island prison to help her. Sofia thought helping Ivy find her butterflies was what she was there for, but it didn't work. It turned out Miss Nettle was also on the island, growing a new magical flower called the Wake-Upsy Daisy, but she needed Ivy's magical butterflies to pollenate them. Sofia set the butterflies free, but Ivy caught the butterflies back—and that's when her pet skunk, Roma, caught the Deep Sleeps. That's when Ivy started to feel love for the very first time—it was a brand-new feeling to her. Ivy learned how important it is to help a friend. Since then, she had been helping Miss Nettle with her Wake-Upsy Daisies—with a pair of sunglasses to block out the color. Ivy became a good person—but she still hasn't reconciled with Glory.
Sofia thought that was sad, and she wanted to make it right. "Cinderella never reconciled with her stepsisters, and I reconciled with mine," she said. "It's time to bring two sisters back together."
